If so, you would be called an early bird. Perhaps, you hate the sound of your alarm clock each morning and have little energy until afternoon. If so, youre probably a night owl. Most people can be divided into such two groups, but what makes us this way? And is one better than the other? There are different opinions.Usually, early risers have been praised as hard-working while those who prefer to get up late are considered lazy. Most people believe the early bird catches the worm.Yet some scientists now believe night owls can really focus(集中) longer and produce more than early risers.Research has found that the early bird does not always get the worm. In a Belgian study, both morning people and evening people were watched during their normal asleep and awake routines(常规).After 10 hours of being awake, the evening people became more alert(思维敏捷的). However, the morning people became sleepy and less focused. Researchers believe the reason for this difference is that night owls receive a last-minute increase from their brains. This added energy allows them to stay alert for longer periods of time.Environment, lifestyle, activities and childhood routines all may have an effect on sleeping habits, yet genetics(遗传学)may play the biggest role.It is possible to change your sleeping habits through regular bedtimes, early exercise and by avoiding midnight snacks. But if youre happy rising early or staying up late, youre probably doing what works best for your own personal body clock.25. The author introduces the subject by _.A. telling an interesting story B. giving different opinionsC. showing research results D. asking a question26. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 really mean?A. Those who get up early achieve their goals.B. Early to bed, early to rise is good for health.C.Night owls can focus longer than early birds.D.Early birds are as hard-working as night owls.27.What did the researchers find in a Belgian study?A. Late risers become sleepier than early risers.B. Early risers become as focused as later risers.C. Late risers can think quickly after being awaken for 10 hours.D. Early risers can think clearly after being awake for 10 hours.28.What opinion does the author finally agree to?A. People should get up early. B. Whatever time suits you, its OKC. Staying up late is good for health. D. Its impossible to change ones sleeping habit.CDo you have trouble trying to create the next big idea? Sometimes the answer isnt to just force an idea out of your mind. Instead, you might want to try sitting back, relaxing and letting your mind wander. Yes, you heard that correctly. If you are in need of a new idea, try daydreaming.Researchers from the university of California, Santa Barbara, found an association between daydreaming and creative problem-solving. Their study includes having participants first do an “unusual-use task”. They had to try to come up with as many different ways to use an object as they could. Then, the participants chose to do one of the following four things before doing the “unusual-use task” again: complete a difficult task; complete an easy task; take a 12-minute break; or skip the 12-minute break and move right on to the task exercise again.Surprisingly, the group that performed best was the one that completed the easy task. Many participants reported that they were daydreaming while performing the easy task. So the researchers believed that this daydreaming might have helped unlock their creativity. But how could daydreaming help the brain come up with creative ways? The answer is something known as “unconscious thought”. Even when you are not actively working to solve a problem, it is still in the back of your mind. Your brain is still thinking about the problem, but in a much more subtle (不易察觉的) way. When you daydream, your mind is allowed to think in ways it normally would not. Because it is free of control, it can create completely new and out-of-the-box ideas.Great ideas never come easily, but that does not mean you always have to work hard to get them. Feel free to do what you want and let your mind wander.29The “unusual-use task” in Paragraph 2 means that participants _.Acomplete an easy taskBcomplete a very difficult taskCtake a 12-minute breakDthink of various ways to use an object30Why did the participants who completed the easy task perform best?AThey were not actively working to solve the easy task.BThey daydreamed and it helped them be more creative.CThey were daydreaming while performing the difficult task.DThey skipped the 12-minute break to complete the task again.31What does the underlined phrase “unconscious thought” in Paragraph 5 mean?AYour brain wander in a subtle way within your control.BYour brain knows clearly what youre thinking and doing.CYour brain is thinking about a problem outside of your awareness.DYour brain refuses to receive any information from the outside world.32The passage mainly wants to tell us that _.Abrainstorming is important to creative ideas.Bdaydreaming is a way to improve creativity.Cproblem-solving skills are important in our lives.Dthe more we exercise brains, the more ideas well get.DSpending money on time-saving services reduces stress and boosts(增进)happiness, according to a new research, but shockingly, few of us do it.Whillans, a professor at HBS said, “ Buying time helps to protect us from the stress in our lives caused by time pressure, and the feeling that we don t have enough minutes in the day to complete our tasks. The effect was clearest in the Canadian experiment, in which 60 working adults were given $40 to spend in two different ways. One weekend, they were told to spend the money on a material purchasea gift for themselves. The next weekend, they were instructed to spend the $40 on anything that saved them time, from paying the neighbor s kid to run errands (跑腿)to taking an Uber instead of a bus.“On the day they made the time-saving purchase, they felt happier, in a better mood, and lower feelings of time stress than on the day they bought a material purchase,” said Whillans. The biggest surprise to the researchers was how few people would spend money on time-saving services. When they asked 98 working adults how they would spend a “windfall” of $40,only two percent named a purchase that would save them time.“ One reason, said Whillans, “is that we re very bad at remembering how much we hate doing certain tasks once the suffering has passed. That makes us less likely to take active steps to avoid that overburdened feeling in the future. ” But another possible cause is good old-fashioned guilt. “If you feel guilty about getting someone to clean your house for you, then you might get less happiness from outsourcing (外包)that task,” said Whillans,“or you might just be less likely to spend your money in that way. 33.In the Canadian experiment, the participants .A.were divided into two groupsB.were given $ 40 every two weeksC.were asked to give money to a neighborJs kidD.were asked to spend the money in different ways34.According to the author, what can make people less time-stressed?A.Paying much for a concert ticket.B.Taking a regular bus to get to work.C.Employing someone to clean the garden.D.Buying themselves an expensive present.35.When it comes to spending money on buying time”,_.A.no people would like to do itB.a small percentage of people choose to do itC.more people will do it if extra money is givenD.most people like the idea but don t practice it in life第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余项。Everyone knows that fish is good for health. 36 But it seems that many people dont cook fish at home.
