The neighbours dog was barking.M: I didnt hear anything.Text 2M: Im sorry, madam. The train is running behind schedule. Take a seat and Ill inform you as soon as we hear something definite.W: Thanks. I will sit here and read a magazine in the meantime.Text 3M: Are you still planning to go with us tomorrow?W: Well, I listened to the weather report. The pollutions going to be so bad that they advised people to stay indoors.Text 4M: The taxi is waiting downstairs. Lets hurry.W: Wait a minute. Ill take some food with us. I dont like the food they serve on trains.M: Oh, come on. We dont have much time left.W: Relax! The train isnt going to leave without us!Text 5M: Hows Bob?W: Oh, hes OK. He enjoys his work in his company. Last week he was given a raise. We are pleased about that.Text 6M: You look rather pale. Arent you feeling well?W: Not very. I was sick most of the weekend. I didnt sleep very well.M: What seems to be the matter? Is it flu?W: No, I think its something I ate. we ate at that new restaurant last Friday night, and I must have eaten something that didnt agree with me.M: Was it that new restaurant over on Flower Street?W: As a matter of fact, it was. Why do you ask?M: Because Jerry ate there last week and had the same kind of problem. He was sick the next day, too.W: Thats interesting.M: Thats what I think. Two people with similar problems in such a short time cant just be a coincidence !Text 7M: Excuse me, madam. Would you mind if I ask you some questions? I need your help to complete a survey.W: Of course not. Go ahead.M: Id like to know your opinion about modern pop music.W: Modern pop music? Um, well, I dont really listen to pop music or watch pop videos.M: Oh, why?W: The music is too noisy, and the songs are really nonsense. And just look at their hairstyles, the clothes they wear, and the way they behave.M: But, you know, young people are very fond of pop music.W: Youre absolutely right. My son, whos fifteen, is a real pop music fan. He listens to it all the time at home, and it really annoys my husband and me.M: Is that so?W: Absolutely. My husband enjoys traditional folk music and classical music. He says it makes him calm and relaxed to listen to it, and he says he gets a headache whenever he hears modern pop music.M: Sounds funny.W: And believe it or not, the moment my son turns on his music, my husband always demands he put his headphones on, and so does my son when his father listens to his. Each calls the others music noise pollution, and the argument never ends. Ha-ha.Text 8W: Please sit down. Lets see, youre Mr. Brown.M: Thats right.W: Well, lets get going. When will you graduate?M: This June.W: Have you ever done any work in this field, or something similar?M: No, nothing. We only did some practice work in class.W: You seem to be doing well in college. What kind of pay are you hoping to get?M: From what Ive read, it seems that the starting salary should be in the region of 100 000 yuan a year.W: Here we would start at 89 500 yuan for the first yeara kind of training period. Then you would go to 120 000 yuan. After that, your raise depends on how you have worked.M: That sounds fair enough. What about other things, like vacations?W: Those are all explained in this document. You can take it with you and look at it at home.M: Oh, thanks. Well, do you think I have a chance of getting the job?W: Well, Im talking to three people today and four tomorrow, and well only be hiring two.M: I sure hope that I can work here, but I guess Ill just have to go home and wait.W: Good luck and thanks for coming today.Text 9W: Welcome, sir and madam. A table for two?M: We dont want a table, thank you. We have a problem. Can you help us?W: Sure! What can I do for you?M: We want to find somewhere that can put us up for the night because we are so tired after driving all day. Are there any hotels near here?W: Yes. There are some modern and traditional hotels in the main street. The nearest one from here is next to the bank.M: Do you think there are any inexpensive hotels nearby? We are leaving tomorrow morningW: Yes. Drive east for about three minutes and youll see a grey building on the right. Its a traditional family-style hotel, very comfortable, and the price is reasonable.M: Sounds nice. Thank you for your help.W: Thats all right.Text 10Im glad to see so many of you here. Were shocked by the number of students we are seeing in the health center who are experiencing hearing loss. First I want to go over some basic things about hearing. Then we can take a look at our school environment and see if we can figure out some ways to prevent hearing damage. The major cause of hearing loss is noise. If you hear noise for a long time, your hearing will be damaged. Loudness is measured in units called decibels. One decibel is the lowest sound that the average person can hear. Sounds up to 80 decibels arent harmful; thats noise like traffic on a busy street. But anything louder than 80 decibels may eventually do damage to your hearing. You might even feel pain in your ears if youre up to around 140 decibels, which is like a jet plane taking off. And pain is a sign of hearing loss. So what you need to do is limit your exposure to that loudness. Now lets take a look at the decibel levels of some common campus sounds. Theres a list on the paper in front of you. The neighbours dog was barking明确地说明了答案。2. The pollutions going to be so bad that they advised people to stay indoors这句也暗示了她不会去了。4. The taxi is waiting downstairs. I was sick most of the weekend说明她是在刚过去的周末生病了,那对话很可能发生在周一了。7. Because Jerry ate there last week and had the same kind of problem. My son, whos fifteen, is a real pop music fan即说明了本题答案。11.
