This means that artists “represented” their subjects in a way that was realistic and recognizable. However, during the first half of the twentieth century, artists like Jackson Pollock started to explore other methods of representation.Jackson Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming in nineteen twelve. He grew up in the states of Arizona and California. Pollock later said that the wideopen land of these western areas greatly influenced his expansive artwork. In nineteen thirty he moved east to New York City where he studied at the Art Students League. There, Pollock spent a few years studying with the artist Thomas Hart Benton who painted images of everyday American life. Pollocks early works are similar to his teachers kind of painting. However, Pollock slowly left this traditional art education behind.Pollock was also influenced by the Spanish artist Miro. Miro was part of a movement of surrealist painters. Surrealist artists thought that true art comes from a part of the mind called the unconscious. The unconscious controls the area of the mind that produces dreams. Pollock agreed with these artists that the unconscious mind was an important force in creating art.In nineteen fortyfour, Pollock married Lee Krasner who was also a skilled Abstract Expressionist painter. The next year they moved to East Hampton, a small town on Long Island in the state of New York. The couple wanted to get away from the busy life of New York City. In this country environment they could enjoy nature and have more time to work on their art.The home in East Hampton, New York where Jackson Pollock lived with his wife Lee Krasner is now a museum. At this special place you can see the rooms where these artists lived. Most importantly, you can see the studio where Pollock and Krasner created their work. On the floor of the studio is the evidence of years and years of Pollocks thrown paint. The floor looks just like one of Pollocks paintings.Experts say this museum is a cultural treasure. It is the place where Jackson Pollock helped introduce the world to Abstract Expressionism. Pollock helped break the traditional rules of representation and established America as an important center for modern art. 21Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?APollocks wife is also an artist.BA museum was built where Pollock once lived.CPollocks new method of representation was influenced by Thomas Hart Benton.DPollock got married at the age of 32. C22Why did the Pollocks move to East Hampton in 1945?ABecause he married a skilled Abstract Expressionist painter.BBecause he and his wife wanted to enjoy a quiet life.CBecause the country environment is his favorite.DBecause East Hampton is far from the big city. 由第四段第三句“The couple wanted to get away from the busy life of New York City”可知,他们搬到East Hampton是想远离城市的繁忙生活。因此选B。答案:B23It can be concluded from the passage that _.APollock didnt like the traditional artBPollock lived with his wife until deathCPollocks paintings are not realisticDPollock and his wife created a museum解析:推理判断题。 答案:CB(2020;2020湖北荆州)My daughter Kelsey was borg with cerebral palsy (脑瘫). Because of her cerebralyalsy, Kelsey has very little use of the fingers on her left hand. When she was four, she wanted to learn to tie her shoes just as her best friend had done. I didnt know what to do. If I couldnt tie a shoe singlehandedly, how was I going to teach her? However, after three and a half years of practice, Kelsey finally did it!When she was six, she wanted to take ballet lessons. Im embarrassed to admit how much this frightened me. I wasnt just afraid for her body, but for her feelings. I worried about the teasing she might get from the rest of the dance class. But I didnt know how to tell Kelsey all of this, and she wouldnt let up, so I enrolled her in a ballet school.Kelsey danced with abandon, completely unaffected by what she couldnt do. The joy of dancing was enough. Every person who saw Kelsey dance came away with something speo cial. She danced for four years. When she quit, it was only to announce that she wanted to take horseback riding lessons instead. In fifth grade, Kelsey excitedly brought home a registration form for school basketball. Now this was going to be a major challenge for her. She could run only slowly, shes short, and she still had the use of only one hand. Warning bells were off inside my head again, but I_had_learned_to_ignote_them. The excitement in her eyes cancelled out all the drawbacks (缺陷) , and we signed her up.After the first practice the coach said that he was Miaid to let her play in a game. When he explained how she might get hurt, I could see scenes lawsuits (官司) dancing in his head. But every child who plays sports takes risks, I reasoned with him. After a few discussions and a little more encouragement, he decided to let her play. For two years, Kelsey played harder than any girl in the league. And while she never made a basket during a game, she brought other gifts that were more valuable to her teammates. In two years, I never once saw a player treat her as anything other than treasures. 24Kelsey stopped dancing because_.Aher mother didnt support herBshe wanted to learn horse ridingCher health condition wasnt suitable to danceDshe couldn
