On my way in,a homeless man approached me and asked, “Do you have any bottles lying around?” I knew he would recycle them for a few cents, but I didnt have any, so I said no. And again, he asked, “Can you spare some change(零钱)?” I smiled, and said no again. He was very respectful; he smiled back and said, “OK, thank you.” Even though he didnt have anything,he was still in good spirits. From the way he spoke I could tell he was smart. Then I bought one hamburger and enjoyed my meal, but in the back of my mind I wondered whether the homeless man was hungry. After I finished my meal I decided to order another one for him. At this point I didnt know if he was still around, but I tried anyway. At the counter I ordered a hamburger and also a hot chocolate, because it was cold outside, and I thought it would help warm him up. They delivered me the hot chocolate first and as I waited for my hamburger, I noticed the homeless man was standing right beside me. I looked at him and smiled,“This hot chocolate is for you.” He replied like a gentleman, “Thank you so much. Thats very kind of you.”I always believe no matter how hard up(缺钱) I am, there are always those who are worse off than I. When you help someone, its not always about money, its about love. The love you give today, someone might forget tomorrow. It doesnt matter. Love anyway, because the greatest thing you can give is love.21Why did the author stop at a fast food restaurant?ABecause he was hungry and thirsty.BBecause the hamburgers there interested him.CBecause he hoped he could collect some bottles there.DBecause he wanted to help the homeless man there. 22We can learn from the first two paragraphs that the author _.Awas angry with the homeless manBwas an old friend of the homeless manCdecided to help the homeless man after his mealDfinished his meal quickly to help the homeless man23We can infer from the text that the homeless man was _. Its not always clear how best to develop and encourage his gift. Many parents may even fail to recognize and respond to their childrens need until discouragement explodes into uncooperative behavior. And while most schools are equipped to deal with children who are especially able in academic subjects, the musically gifted require special understanding which may not always be available in an ordinary school. Such children may well benefit from the education offered by a specialist music school. The five music schools in Britain aim to provide all environment where gifted children can develop their skills under the guidance of professional musicians. Children here spend about half of a day on musical activities, for example, individual lessons, orchestras, chamber(室内音乐的)groups, voice training, conducting and theory. They also spend several hours a day practicing in private rooms. The rest of their time is taken up with the subjects: English, maths and basic sciences. What are the disadvantages? An obvious problem is that the fees are high. However, each school will offer scholarships and other forms of financial aid. Secondly, not all parents want to send their children to boarding school, especially at an early age. Almost all the directors of the specialist schools express doubts about the wisdom of admitting children as young as seven into such a tense and disciplined (守纪律的) environment. They stress, however, that their main aim is to turn out “well-rounded and wellbalanced individual.”29. If a childs musical ability is not recognized, _.A. the child may behave badly B. the ability may fade awayC. the child may lose interest D. the parents may become anxious30 What probably may musically gifted children face in ordinary schools?A. Their academic work may suffer. B. Schools lack musical equipment.C. Music is not seen as an important subject. D. Parents and teachers dont work together.31. The passage mainly talks about_.A. education and development about children B. disadvantages of music schoolsC. music schools for children with music gift D. how to deal with music talented childrenD It is widely known that any English conversation begins with The Weather. Such a fixation with the weather finds expression in Dr.Johnsons famous comment that “When two English meet, their first talk is of weather.” Though Johnsons observation is as accurate now as it was over two hundred years ago, most commentators(评论员) fail to come up with a convincing explanation for this English weather-speak.Bill Bryson, for example, concludes that, as the English weather is not at all exciting, the obsession with it can hardly be understood. He argues that to an outsider, the most striking thing about the English weather is that there is not very much of it.” Simply, the reason is that the unusual and unpredictable weather is almost unknown in the British Isles.Jeremy Paxman, however, disagrees with Bryson, arguing that the English weather is by nature attractive. Bryson is wrong, he says, “because the English preference for the weather has nothing to do with the natural phenomena(现象).”The interest is less in the phenomena themselves, but in uncertainty.” According to him, the weather in England is very changeable and uncertain and it attracts the English as well as the outsider.Bryson and Paxman stand for common misconceptions about the weather-speak among the English. Both commentators, somehow, are missing the point. The English weather conversation is not really about the weather at all. English weather-speak is a system of signs, which is developed to help the speakers overcome the natural reserve and actually talk to each other. Everyone knows conversations starting with weather-speak are not requests for weather data. Rather, they are routine greetings, conversation starters or the blank “fillers”. In other words, English weather-speak is a means of social bonding.32.The author mentions Dr. Johnsons comment to show that_.A. most commentators agree with Dr. Johnson B. Dr.Johnson is famous for his weather observationC. the comment was accurate two hundred years agoD. English conversations usually start with the weather33. What does the underlined word”obsession” most probably refer to?A.A social trend. B.An emotional state. C.A historical concept. D.An unknown phenomenon.34.According to the passage, Jeremy Paxman believes that_.A.Bill Bryson has little knowledge of the weatherB.there is nothing special about the English weatherC.the English weather attracts people to the British IslesD.English people talk about the weather for its unccrtainty35.What is the authors main purpose of writing the passage?A.To explain what English weather-speak is about.B.To analyse misconceptions about the English weather.C.To find fault with both Bill Bryson and Jeremy Paxman.D.To convince people that the English weather is changeable. 第二节(共5小题; 每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How can I fight laziness?Lazy people will never amount to anything in life. However, laziness can be defeated once a few changes have been made in your mind. 36 Many people lack sleep constantly, since they stay up too late and get up too early to prepare for work. These people have little motivation once they arrive home. Laziness works hand in hand with a lack of motivation and a tendency to procrastinate(拖延). By adjusting your sleep schedule to provide a few more hours of meaningful rest, you can fight laziness throughout the day.Another way to fight laziness is to change your mind from passive to active. Some people treat their lives as if they were pushed from project to project. Others take a more proactive approach, viewing each project or task as a challenge they must overcome alone. 37 Some people fight laziness by removing the temptations(诱惑) that surround them. A television in the living room may provide entertainment, but watching too much TV often promotes laziness. Create a reward system for yourself, just as parents do for a child to promote responsibility. Complete a certain number of chores and reward yourself with a good dinner. 38 39 Spouse(配偶) and children may all have different energy levels, but laziness can be spread if not addressed quickly. To fight household laziness, lead by example. Be the first to collect and wash dishes after a meal. Others in the home may eventually follow your example and perform their own chores. It is difficult to practice laziness when you are surrounded by motivated people. 40 Enough exercise and a balanced diet can help you to develop a healthy lifestyle, thus enabling you to have more energy and help boost your mood.A. Knowing how to fight laziness is important.B. One way to fight laziness is to get enough sleep.C. Laziness can also be a lasting problem at home.D. If you have a hobby, celebrate after completing a project.E. Finally, taking exercise regularly can help you fight laziness.F. With strong determination, you will be able to achieve your goal.G. Laziness sets in when you no longer feel in charge of your own life. 第三部分:英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)第一节:完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出最佳选项.
