But you can be sure of plenty of support in the UK, Universities and colleges look after their students. There are personal tutors, study skills counselors (辅 导员) and financial advisers to help with any problems. Many institutions also have international student advisers. You can contact them with any questions before you come; they will probably arrange a transport service from major airports for arriving students and will organize welcome events. You can also go to see them at any time during your course. For students with families, child care facilities(设施)are often provided at reasonable cost. Its not compulsory to use any of these services. If you are independent and have no problems, they wont come knocking on your door! But it can be comforting to know that they are there. Campuses are safe places to live, as in general are most UK towns. As with anywhere else, there are areas in some cities best avoided after dark but you will be advised on this. Universities and colleges make sure student residences(居住地) are safe, and at most places transport is provided at night for women students. You will be able to take part in a range of social and sporting activities. There are team and individual sports at all levels; and clubs and societies to cover any interest from drama to politics, water sports to games, debating to voluntary social work. The students unions arrange discos and run pubs, bars and eating-places. Clubs are run by students for students and are always well advertised at the beginning of the academic year. Joining one or two societies is a great way to meet other students from Britain and other countries. 36. The passage mentions all of the following services provided by UK colleges and universities EXCEPT_. A. financial adviceB. transport on arrival C. cooking and washingD. advice on unsafe places 37. What does the underlined word“compulsory”mean? A. UrgentB. FreeC. DifficultD. Required 38. Which of the following statements is true? A. Some UK campuses are unsafe to live. B. The most important interest covered by clubs and societies is drama. C. Few activities are run by students themselves. D. Students are well informed of club activities for the academic year. B The competition among producers of personal computers is essentially a race to get the best, most innovative (革新的) products to the marketplace. Marketers in this environment frequently have to make a judgment as to their competitors role when making marketing strategy(战略性的) decisions. If major competitors are changing their products, then a marketer may want to follow suit to remain competitive. Apple Computer, Inc. has introduced two new, faster personal computers, the Mackintosh II and Mackintosh SE, in anticipation of (预期) the introduction of a new PC by IBM, one of Apples major competitors. Apples new computers are much faster and more powerful than its earlier models. The improved Mackintosh is able to run programs that previously were impossible to run on an Apple PC, including IBM compatible (兼容的) programs. This compatibility feature (特点) shows computer manufactures new attitude of giving customers the features they want. Making Apple computers able to run IBM software is Applets effort at making the Mackintosh compatible with IBM computers and thus more popular in the office, where Apple hopes to increase sales. Users of the new Apple can also add accessories (附件) to make their machines specialize in specific uses, such as engineering and writing. The new computers represent a big improvement over past models but they also cost much more. Company officials do not think the higher price will slow down buyers who want to step up a more powerful computer. Apple wants to stay in the highprice end of the personal computer market to finance research for even faster, more satisfying computers. Even though Apple and IBM are major competitors, both companies realize that their competitors computers have certain features that their own models do not. The Apple line has always been popular for its satisfying color graphics (图形), whereas the IBM machines have always been favored in offices. In the future, there will probably be more compatibility between the two companies products, which no doubt will require that both Apple and IBM change marketing strategies. 39. According
