In this period, there are some pictures describing peoples current situations and their opinions on looking good and feeling good for students to think about and discuss. In this part, students are expected to express their own opinions by comparing the importance of beauty and health in order to practice their spoken English. They will certainly curious about how to look good and feel good as well as their health. So the topic is an amazing one for the students, and it will definitely stimulate the students interest to discuss how to look good and feel good. By learning this, the teacher can also help the students to get some proper ways to keep healthy and fit.In this period, some reading strategies should be introduced: speaking and discussion.Meanwhile, different in-class activities should be well organized for all the students to take part in speaking and discussion.三维目标1. And ask them whether they want to know it.Entering the 21st century, we have various entertainments to enjoy ourselves. For example, surfing the Internet, seeing films, going to a concert and etc.The teacher may ask the students the following three questions:1. In your spare time, what do you often do to enjoy yourselves?2. What stars do you prefer?3. Why do you like these stars so much?The students may have many various answers. For example: watching some shows, listening to some famous singers. . .The teacher may say that several days ago, she watched a clothing show. Wow, she envied those models very much. They have good figures and are high in stature. Many people liked them and applauded for them.Then let the students look at her, not slim, even a little bit fat. So, she is very puzzled. Jane is a high school student and she is extremely happy, because she has been admitted to the university she wanted to go to. Tonight her parents will hold a party to celebrate her success and achievements and all her friends and relatives are invited to share her happiness. But now she is at a loss about the clothes she is going to wear tonight. She is confident about everything except her weight. She is constantly worried about being too fat. Now she has spent at least half an hour selecting clothes without success.A question for the students: Do you think we can change our appearance by wearing different clothes?2. Tom is very slim, and he wants not to be so slim. Every day, he goes to the gym to do exercise. He is practicing weightlifting with all his energy. Although he knows it is very difficult, he sticks to it, for he thinks this may make him strong and help to keep healthy. The doctor examined her and found out she lacked sleep. Beauty is an eternal theme. The whole unit tries to reveal the dialectical relationship between beauty and health and various ways of keeping healthy as well as beautiful. “Welcome to the unit” is the introduction to the unit, which discusses the topic “Beauty and health”. The “Welcome to the unit” part is composed of four pictures showing four common but effective ways to look good and keep good at the same time. In this section, some pictures describing peoples current situations and their opinions on looking good and feeling good are presented for the students to think about and discuss. Following the four pictures are three questions for students to discuss. These three questions are so designed that students are able to share with each other their knowledge and ideas concerning the topic in the unit “Looking good, feeing good”. In this way, students are well prepared for the further study later in the unit. In this part, students are expected to express their own opinions by comparing the importance of beauty and health in order to practice their spoken English. Considering the function and features of “Welcome to the unit”, this part is usually designed as a speaking lesson. Generally speaking, teachers are supposed to put forward more questions besides the ones in the text book so that students are able to have a free discussion centered on the topic “beauty and health”.三维目标1.
