“Howbeautifullysoftthegrassis，andwhatalovelylittleflowerwithitsgoldenheartandsilverdressisgrowinghere.”Theyellowcentreinthedaisydidindeedlooklikegold，whilethelittlepetalsshoneasbrightlyassilver.Howhappythedaisywas！Noonehastheleastidea.Thebirdkisseditwithitsbeak，sangtoit，andthenroseagainuptothebluesky.Itwascertainlymorethanaquarterofanhourbeforethedaisyrecovereditssenses.Halfashamed，yetgladatheart，itlookedovertotheotherflowersinthegarden；surelytheyhadwitnesseditspleasureandthehonourthathadbeendonetoit；theyunderstooditsjoy.Butthetulipsstoodmorestifflythanever，theirfaceswerepointedandred，becausetheywerevexed.Thepeoniesweresulky；itwaswellthattheycouldnotspeak，otherwisetheywouldhavegiventhedaisyagoodlecture.Thelittleflowercouldverywellseethattheywereillatease，andpitiedthemsincerely.Shortlyafterthisagirlcameintothegarden，withalargesharpknife.Shewenttothetulipsandbegancuttingthemoff，oneafteranother. “itlookssopretty.”Andsoitstayed，andwasbroughtintothelarkscage.Thepoorbirdwaslamentingitslostliberty，andbeatingitswingsagainstthewires；andthelittledaisycouldnotspeakorutteraconsolingword，muchasitwouldhavelikedtodoso.Sotheforenoonpassed.“Ihavenowater，”saidthecaptivelark，
