阅读训练:Modern AgricultureA本文词数:215 参考时间:157Modern AgricultureEngineering and technology is an important part of modern agriculture. There are even people called agricultural engineers now. One area of agriculture where plant production is advancing rapidly is hydroponics, which is a technique of growing plants in water that contains nutrients. Because hydroponics doesnt use soil, people in very dry areas like parts of Africa, for example, can grow plants for food and other natural resources. Hydroponics may also increase food production a concern for the growing population. Agricultural ChemistryAgricultural chemistry is connected with both chemistry and biology, which are important in agriculture for things such as weed control, soil mixture, agricultural products analysis, and nutritional requirements for farm animals.TechnologyTechnological progress and other advancements have greatly changed the way things are packaged, processed and marketed to consumers. Technology benefits farmers by reducing the amount of labor they need to do and by increasing the efficiency and productivity of the farms. While technology controls most modern farms today, animals like horses are still actively used on farms to transport products. Computers have also become an important agricultural management tool. Hydroponics and greenhouse growing are two examples of agriculture that generally make use of computers for managing lighting, feeding and temperature. Aircrafts, including planes are also used in daily agricultural business. Note: analysis n.分析词数:156 处理时间:312 Read the passage and choose the best answer for each question.1. Organic farmers seek to leave the earth in its natural state after the harvest, which is very good for the soil and the environment. In organic farming, crops are grown without manmade fertilizers and pesticides1, and animals are bred free of drugs. People who buy organic food believe that it produces higher quality food that is more nutritious than traditional chemical-based methods. Many countries including the US and countries in Europe have certification programs to control the use of the word organic. This benefits the consumers and the environment. The rules vary from country to country, but include things like the least length of time a field can be left free of chemicals before it is allowed to be used for organic farming. There are many different styles of organic food production, but they all have the same characteristics, such as no man-made fertilizers or drugs, and rules to prevent the wearing out of soil. Organic farming was started as a reaction against the chemical based methods that were used so widely in the 20th century food production. Before the 20th century, organic farming had been practiced for thousands of years until chemicals were invented. Compared to the chemical farming methods, organic farming methods seem very expensive, so organic farming has been limited to small businesses growing for local markets. Consumers are likely to pay for the improved flavor2 and nutritional value of organic products, but it still remains a small market. We know that organic farming is _.A. a form of agriculture using all man-made fertilizersB. a new kind of farming that protects the environment betterC. a way to produce food using fewer chemical fertilizers and pesticidesD. a certification program in the US and the EU to create healthy soil2. Organic farming has been limited to small businesses because _.A. some consumers dont like the flavor of organic productsB. some organic producers do not want to enter production C. organic farming has a much longer history than chemical farmingD. organic farming methods are more expensive than those that use chemicals3. From the passage, we can tell that _.A. if producers use fewer fertilizers, soil quality will be better B. if farmers use traditional chemical-based ways, food will have a higher quality C. if consumers hadnt reacted against organic methods, chemical farming would not have come aboutD. if many countries dont have certification programs, the price of organic products will be lower4. The passage suggests that _.A. healthy soil equals healthy food, and healthy food equals healthy peopleB. the expense on using organic farming methods is very low for producersC. more consumers should be in the reaction against the chemical-based methodsD. organic farming still has a long way to go阅读新题型本文词数:210 参考时间:145I am sure you have seen or heard about rice farms, cattle farms and other farms like that, but have you ever heard of a wind farm? It is not a farm that produces wind, but it produces electricity using the wind. Doesnt it sound interesting? Do you know how electricity is generated1 on a wind farm? It is generated when the wind turns turbines2. The turbines can change their speed according to the wind speed. In the best conditions they can make 17 rounds in one minute. The turbines are automatically controlled. When there are very strong winds the turbines will shut down to avoid damage. Te Apiti is the first wind farm in New Zealand. It generates electricity for up to 45,000 homes without making any harmful greenhouse gases, and will do so for another twenty years. There are also benefits to the people living near wind farms especially in terms of tourism. There is a parking area located under a turbine at Te Apiti where about four hundred cars come every week.
