2、eir skills continually. B: What kinds of training programs are available to staff? A: Our training focuses on leadership development. We have one specific course that is called our Management Suess System, or MSS. We dont just teach technical aptitude, but we also allow our managers and supervisors

3、an in-depth learning experience that includes a three-month leadership course. The programs focus is to help our management team develop a global view of our pany, so our future senior leaders will know the issues facing our industry and be prepared to be an effective leader of a worldwide organizat

4、ion. B: It sounds like a really rigorous program. Its not easy to cultivate globalized leadership. Which employees are eligible for the training course? A: There is a petitive selection process. Participant criteria includes a high performance record, positive feedback by peers and supervisors, and

5、a desire to participate and advance in the pany. Dialogue 2 A: Wele everyone to the first session of our leadership workshop. As you all know, youve all been hand-picked by senior staff management to participate, and from your performance reviews, I know youre the cream of the crop. I hope you all a

6、ppreciate the opportunity to work on your management abilities, and bee further indoctrinated in our pany culture and business plans. To start with, do we have any questions? B: Excuse me, yes. I would like to know a little more about our schedule for the training. What days will we be meeting? How

7、long will the training sessions take? How long will the course last? Is there homework? A: We will meet weekly on Thursday mornings. Each session will last three hours, and the course has a duration of three months. You will have assignments that will require out of class time to plete. This trainin

8、g course is a prehensive and intense preparation for you. The parcipants of this course are the future leaders of this corporation, with a great percentage of the graduate going on to promotions into the senior management circle. Our goal is to equip you with all the skills and understanding of a mu

9、ltinational pany that will enable you to be an effective leader. Seminars/Workshops Dialogue 1 A: What did you learn at the workshop you went to yesterday? Do you think it was worth the investment to go? B: Yeah, I really got a lot out of the session. The workshop topic was resolving personnel probl

10、ems. It was led by a professional human resources director. The teacher had a lot of expertise, and I think we were all given a really good base to start with. A: The workshop was only one afternoon long, do you really think you can learn that much in only a couple of hours? B: It depends on the top

11、ic, the teacher, and the way the course is set up. Yesterday, even though we only hade a short time to discuss the issues, the workshop got us all thinking. We learned some very basic, but very useful methods of dealing with personnel issues. A: Sounds like you really learned a lot. B: I did. I just

12、 hope I can implement all these great ideas that were shared. Dialogue 2 A: The pany is selecting three employees to attend the marketing seminar next month. Did you put your name in for it? B: No, I dont really care too mu for seminars. I find them to be either boring or useless. I mean, how much c

13、an you really learn in one afternoon? A: Its not just about the things that you learn, you know. Seminars are a really great opportunity to mingle and work with professionals in our industry from all over the nation. You can learn a few things, but more importantly, you rub shoulders with the busine

14、ss leaders and make contacts that could lead to potential sales or partnerships in the future. The social mixers are always more important thatn the seminar anyway. B: Im still not too jazzed about going. I feel kind of awkward in those cocktail party situations. A: Well, what if I told you the semi

15、nar is going to be held in Hawaii? Does that perk your interest? B: Now youre talking. Company Retreats Dialogue 1 A: Margaret, Id like you to follow up with the arrangements for our pany retreat, to take place next month. We need to book the venue, make arrangements for speakers and door prizes, an

16、d set up all the activities and aommodations. Also, very important, we need to determine which of our staff will be eligible and will be available to go. Weve got to get a head count in order to make reservations. B: Whats the criteria for staff to attend? Are we only including our management team i

17、n this affair? Or will we be extending invitations to lower level employees to attend? A: Lower level employees need not attend. The purpose of this retreat is for training, specifically for our management team. We want to develop a well-oiled machine on our executive level. In order to get everyone

18、 to jell together, weve got to include some fun. Thats the reason for the retreat. Dialogue 2 A: Id like to wele everyone to Milton Mabel Co.s annual pany retreat. Now, before you get assigned to your cabins, Id like to go over a rundown with everyone. B: Hold on a second, shouldnt we wait for the other bus to get here? We left directly from the office, but I think the other bus of employees left from another pick-up spot. Not everyones here yet. A: Its okay, Ill go over everything again
