1、The 911 Attacks 911 Terrorist attacks The 911 attacks were a series of coordinated suicide attacks by Islamic extremists on the United States on September 11, 2001. On that morning, 19 Islamist terrorists affiliated with al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. The hijackers intent

2、ionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying at least two nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers crashed a t

3、hird airliner into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania, after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane, which the hijackers had redir

4、ected toward Washington, D.C. There were no survivors from any of the flights The process At 8:45 am, the hijackers hit the north tower the World Trade Center One. War on Terrorism The NATO council declared that the attacks on the United States were considered an attack on all NATO nations and

19、, as such, satisfied Article 5 of the NATO charter. Upon returning to Australia having been on an official visit to the US at the time of the attacks, Australian Prime Minister John Howard invoked Article IV of the ANZUS treaty. In the immediate aftermath of the attacks, the Bush administration anno

20、unced a war on terrorism, with the stated goals of bringing Osama bin Laden and al- Qaeda to justice and preventing the emergence of other terrorist networks. These goals would be accomplished by means including economic and military sanctions against states perceived as harboring terrorists and inc

21、reasing global surveillance and intelligence sharing. The second-biggest operation of the U.S. Global War on Terrorism outside of the United States, and the largest directly connected to terrorism, was the overthrow of the Taliban rule of Afghanistan by a U.S.-led coalition. The United States was no

Across the globe, nations offered pro-American support and solidarity. Leaders in most Middle Eastern countries, includi

34、ng Afghanistan, condemned the attacks. Iraq was a notable exception, with an immediate official statement that the American cowboys are reaping the fruit of their crimes against humanity. Another publicized exception was the celebration of some Palestinians. Conspiracy theories Proponents of conspir

35、acy theories have suggested that individuals inside the United States possessed detailed information about the attacks and deliberately chose not to prevent them, or that individuals outside of al-Qaeda planned, carried out, or assisted in the attacks. Some conspiracy theorists claim the World Trade

36、 Center did not collapse because of the crashing planes but was demolished through the use of explosives. This controlled demolition hypothesis is rejected by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and by the community of civil engineers, who, after their research, both concluded that th

37、e impacts of jets at high speeds in combination with subsequent fires caused the collapse of both Twin Towers. Health effects The thousands of tons of toxic debris resulting from the collapse of the Twin Towers consisted of more

39、 than 2,500 contaminants, including known carcinogens. This has led to debilitating illnesses among rescue and recovery workers, which many claim to be directly linked to debris exposure. The first question Ever since September 11 happened in 2001, whole world has been appealing to combat terrorism.

40、 As we can see, people in different country hold very different opinions on the issue how we should combat terrorism. Obviously, Americans think that they can keep them away from terrorism by evanishing all their so-called enemies such as Iraq and Afghanistan, and now both country are under their co

41、ntrol, however, terrorism does not disappear as they have hoped. Contrarily, there seems to be an ever-increasing trend, just leaving countless guiltless people suffering from the war。It is said that about 5451 people died in the disaster of 9.11, while the casualty of common of Iraq has reached mor

42、e than 6087 according to the statistics freshly released by white house. So we should always keep in mind what we are supposed to do and what are not, do not make yourself a terrorist because of your hate of terrorism. In my opinion, in order to combat terrorism, firstly, we should combat all inequa

43、lity and injustice deeply rooted in our society. There are so many people had been and are wrongly and unfairly treated : you are not allowed to sit in some special preservation in a bus just because you are a black, you are forbidden in entering some occupations because you are a black, you do the

44、same job like others while getting lower rewards than others just because you are a black or you are a women .you are turned down again in a job applying because of your age. If all above happened inside a country, then following are among countries: some countries request for illegal rights interfe

45、ring in other countrys national affairs rely on their enormous economic and military power, they suppress and crack down on Muslim countries, separate their people from their religion. Can you believe that all this things happened in a society claimed to be more and more democracy and free? No one w

46、ants to be guilty unless they are forced to be. Now you see, many people are thirsty for equality and justice as you for peace and quite. Giving them what they want, then you will get what you want. The second question In the modern world, peace and development have become two major themes. But some

47、 areas in the world are still involved in wars. Take the ongoing lraq War for example. The war is hurting peoples welfare. So people all over the world pay a lot of attention to these issues. People usually compare wars to disasters. They are right because wars often bring about not only great harm

48、to people but also a lot of waste of wealth. During wartime, peoples lives become so miserable that they dont have enough food to eat and no shelter to live in. And in destroyed cities, the residents find themselves homeless all of a sudden, in addition, if a country wants to win a war, it has to sp

49、end a lot of money on both arms and armed forces. Then there is very little money left to develop its economy. Even if the country wins the war, it is still difficult for it to recover from the damage of the war. In a word, whether the world can develop steadily depends on whether the world is at pe

I am sure that the majority of people who love peace will appeal for a world without war. war is not just a matter of two persons or two-family fight. It is related to so many victims interests . As a leader, one must always think for
