Mr. Bin gley is a frien dly young man, but his friend, Mr. Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior. Eve n the five daughters in Bennet family are very differe nt. Jane is simple, i n

3、nocent and n ever speaks evil of others. Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opin io n. Mary likes read ing classic books. (Actually she is a peda nt.) Kitty does n t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, an

4、d is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find the same pers on alities in the society now. That is why I thi nk this book is in deed the represe ntative of the society in Britai n in the 18th cen tury.The family of gentlemanin the countrysideis JaneAusten s favourite topi

5、c. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratumsituationand economicrelatio nships in Brita in in her cen tury. You can find these from the very begi nning of this book.The first sentence in this book is impressive. It reads: It isa truth well known to all the world that

The un dert one is very clear: the foun dati on of the marriage at that time is not emoti on but possessi on.People always thi nk that Auste n was an expert at telli ng love stories. In fact, the marriage in her book is

7、 n ot the result of love, but the result of economic needs. After reading this book, I know the truth is that a poor woma n must be in n eed of a husba nd, a wealthy man.I could n t forget how eager Mrs. Bennet wants to marry off her daughters. If you want to know why she is so crazy about these thi

8、 ngs, I must men ti on the situati on in Brita in at that time. Only the eldest son had the privilege of i nheriti ng his father s possessi ons. Youn ger sons and daughters who are used to luxurious lives have no choice but marry a man or woman in possession of a large fortune to continue their comf

9、ortable lives. Thus, we can see that gett ing married is a way to become wealthier, particularly for women without many possessions. Jane Austen told us that money and possessi on determ ined everythi ng, in cludi ng marriage and love in her cen tury.In Pride and Prejudice , the sister of Mr. Bin gl

10、ey stro ngly opposed his pla n of marrying Jane because the Benn ets don t have many possessions and their social positions are much lower than them. From this, we can see there are a lot of obstacles for a not very rich woman to marry a wealthy husband. The society, the relatives would not allow th

11、em to get married.In moder n society, although the marriages of econo mic n eedshave decreased rapidly, the con cept of moneydeterm ines everythi ng is still rooted in some people s mind.
