32、ns for the safe storage and handlingof liquefied chlorine gas. It also provides requirements and recommendations forvaporisers, chlorinators and other parts of systems in which chlorine is reticulated anddistributed.NOTES:1Physical and chemical data for chlorine is provided in Appendix A.2The hazard
33、ous properties of chlorine are discussed in Appendix B.For the purposes of this Standard, quantities are expressed in kilograms (kg).1.2 APPLICATIONThe requirem睷ents of th眮is Standar抵d apply in晸 conjunct眮ion with, 捯but do no?t take precedenceover, any government regulations that apply in any area.NO
34、TES:1In Australia, chlorine is classified as a workplace hazardous substance by NOHSC: 1008 andlisted in NOHSC: 10005. As such, it is subject to the legislative requirements relating toworkplace hazardous substances.2An installation may come under the regulatory control of several authorities, and a
35、pprovalfrom one does not necessarily constitute an approval from the others.3The relevant requirements of the Building Code of Australia (BCA)/New Zealand BuildingCode (NZBC) apply to all matters relating to building works.This Standard does not apply to(a)the manufacture of chlorine gas;(b)the chlo
36、rination of swimming pools by means of powders or liquids, e.g. calciumhypochlorite, isocyanurates or sodium hypochlorite solution.(c)the transport of liquefied chlorine gas, which is covered by other rules and codes, e.g.the ADG Code/NZS 5433;(d)the handling and transport of chlorine in port areas

40、hlorinatorEquipment that regulates the flow of chlorine gas into the user system, e.g. swimming pool,sewage effluent.1.5.4 ChlorineElemental chlorine in its gaseous or liquid form.1.5.5 ContainerAny thing in睷 which the眮 chlorine 抵is wholly 晸or partly c眮ontained, 捯including ?cylinders, drums,road tan
41、k vehicles and tanks.1.5.6 CylinderA rigid packaging which is designed in accordance with AS 2030.1 as a portable pressurevessel for the storage of chlorine, and has only one cylinder valve, at one end, used for thewithdrawal of chlorine gas.1.5.7 Dedicated storeAn area that is used solely for the s
42、torage of chlorine containers and their associatedequipment.1.5.8 DrumA cylindrical steel container having a water capacity of 500-1000 L and which can be fittedinto a protective cradle for storage and transport.NOTES:1Drums are designed for either gas or liquid withdrawal and are not fitted with pr
43、essure reliefdevices.2Drums have two valves which, when vertically aligned above one another, permit gas to bedrawn off from the upper valve and liquid chlorine to be drawn off from the lower valve.3In Australia, the nominal capacity of a drum is 920 kg (800 L) of liquefied chlorine.1.5.9 Exposure s
44、tandardAn airborne concentration of a particular substance in the persons breathing zone, exposureto which, according to current knowledge, should not cause adverse health effects or unduediscomfort to nearly all persons. The exposure standard can take one of three forms, time-weighted average (TWA)
