1、 Unit 2 English around the world Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! Its my great honor to present my lesson here. My topic today is The road to modern English, from Unit 2 English around the world, Book 1. My teaching plan is made up of 4 parts, which is Analysis of the teaching material, Analysis
2、of the students and teaching methods, Teaching Procedures and Blackboard Design.Part 1 Analysis of the Teaching MaterialFirst, let me talk about part 1 analysis of teaching material.Status and functionThis lesson is a reading passage. It gives a brief history of the English language. It plays an imp
3、ortant role in English teaching of this unit. By the end of this class, the students can know better about English language and its development.Teaching Aims 1. Ss will master new words and expressions, such as voyage, native, fluent, at present, make use of and so on. 2. Ss will understand the deve
4、lopment of English language.3. Ss will develop students different reading skills, like skimming and scanning.4. Ss will realize the importance of learning English and know the influence of Chinese and love their own language. Teaching key points and difficult points: Based on the teaching aims, I id
5、entify the teaching key points and difficult points as follows:Teaching key points: 1. Master new words and expressions.2.Understand the passage clearly.Teaching difficult point: Develop students reading skills. Part 2 Analysis of the Students and teaching methodsSenior One students have the basic a
6、bilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing, but they are still weak in scientific reading strategies. They have known sth about English language. Some new words and expressions in the text may cause learning difficulties for them.To learn in use and to use in learn is always what we are ad
7、vocating in English teaching and learning. So I will use some teaching methods to help the students to master more reading skills. Here are these methods: 1. Task-based teaching and learning 2. autonomic learning and cooperative learning 3. DiscussionPart 3 Teaching proceduresNext , lets move to the
8、 most important part: part 3 teaching procedures. To achieve my teaching aims, I will divide my teaching procedures into five steps: lead-in, reading, retelling, group discussion, homework. Step 1. Lead-in1. guessing gameAmerican English movie, soccer ball, vacationBritish English film, football, ho
9、liday2.let students enjoy a short video in which an Englishman and an American are talking to each other. Pay attention to the different words that refer to the same thing in British English and American English.Step 2 Pre-reading (3 minutes) (1) Guessing from the title Read the title “the road to m
10、odern English” and let students guess the meaning of “road”. T: In this class we are going to find out how the differences came about in this reading. Look at the title “The road to modern English”. Here, what do you think “road” may mean? (road-development, way, process) (2) According to title, pre
11、dict what the reading is about. T: What do you think will be talked about in this reading? ReadingThis step includes two parts: fast reading and careful reading.1. skimming(1) Skim the rea
12、ding and find out the main idea or the topic sentence of each paragraph. Main idea of each paragraph: Para 1: Many people all over the world speak English. Para 2: Native speakers can understand each other even if they dont speak the same kind of English. Para 3: Why has English changed over time? P
13、ara 4: Finally by the 19th century the language was settled. Para 5: English is now widely spoken in South Asia. 意图说明 学生通过快速阅读,对课文的内容有了初步了解,培养快速获取信息的能力。 (2) Skim the reading and answer the question: The passage is written in order(顺序) of _. T: According to the main idea of each paragraph, we can see the structure of the reading, it is like this: Paragraph 1 and 2 serve as the introduction part; Paragraph 3 and 4 mainly deal with the main development of Modern English; Paragraph 5 is about Englis
15、h Today or Global English. 意图说明 学生分析文章各段之间的关系,理解文章结构, Step 4 Scanning (10 minutes) (1) Scan the reading and find out the information about the main development of modern English, then fill in the blanks. T: Now lets do some detail reading. You can read the related paragraph and fill in the blanks. Y
16、ou can look through the chart and tell me which part it is about. Ss: Its about part 2 and 3, the main development of modern English and English today. T: Now please read the text carefully, esp. paragraphs 3 to 5, and find out and underline the following information mentioned in the passage: AD 450
