3、a colony of Portugal in the history, official language is Portuguese.The Core CultureThe core culture of Brazil is derived from Portuguese culture, because of its strong colonial ties with the Portuguese empire. Among other influences, the Portuguese introduced the Portuguese language, Roman Catholi
4、 cismand colonial architectural styles. The culture was, however, also strongly influenced by African, indigenous and non-Portuguese European cultures and traditions.Some aspects of Brazilian culture were influenced by the contributions of Italian, German and other European as well Japanese, Jewish
5、and Arab immigrants who arrived in large numbers in the South and Southeast of Brazil.The indigenous Amerindians influenced Brazils language and cuisine; and the Africans influenced language, cuisine, music, dance and religion.Cuisine Brazil, the largest country in South America, has a great variety
6、 of traditional foods and desserts. These foods and desserts often are the result of a combination of ingredients brought by the different cultures that have arrived to the country. 10、SambaIntroductionThe Carnival of Brazil is an annual festival and the most famous holiday in Brazili held during the Friday to the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent, the forty-day period before Easter.In the southeastern cities huge organized parades are led by samba sc
11、hools. Those official parades are meant to be watched by the public, while minor parades (blocos) allowing public participation can be found in other cities. OriginsThe earliest Carnival dates back to 1641, when the colonial rulers implemented a decree. According to it, people would be encouraged to
12、 parade, dance and drink unrestrained to celebrate the birthday of the Portuguese King. More than three hundred years later, the Carnival has become the most important folk festival of Brazil. Former footballers are often elected to legislative positions.
