3、lties in Learning English in Rural Middle SchoolAbstract With the deeply internationalizing of our country, we have to communicate and cooperate with the foreigners, so more and more people realize the importance of English learning .Now English is a compulsory basic subjects in Chinese Middle schoo
4、ls. In order to completely integrate into the society, no matter wheather our country or schools are putting much attention to the English teaching and learning . Although our English teaching has gotten much progress , we still face many difficulties ,especially in rural middle school. There are st
5、ill a lot of students with difficulties in learning English . In this paper, I will illusrate the present situation of English learning and analysis the reasons of the existing of the students with difficulties in learning English in rural middle school,by taking Xuhan Xian Cheng Xi Middle School as
6、 an example. Then offer some methods of changing the present situation so teachers can culture good learning motivation ;study habits and learning methods that students can strengthen their confidence and improve their grades. Introduction With the informatization of our social life and the globalization of our economic activities, English is becoming an important tool for contacting with the outside world. The datum show that more than 70 precent scientists read English , 85 precent E-mail ar
18、e written in English and that 90 precent electro-searching systems store imformation in English.Now English is a compulsory basic subjects in middle school in China and it plays a more and more important role in our daily life. For several decades struggling , our English teaching has developed and
19、made some progress in all aspects including teaching methods ,teaching level ,teaching device and so on. But English teaching remains a lot of problems, such as behindhand equipment and out-of-date teaching methods,especially in rural middle school.Though English teaching is taken seriously and from
20、 primary school, we begin to learn English, there are still a large amount of students with difficulties in learning English . For all kinds of reasons , when students move on to grade two and three , the polarizing phenomenon gets worse and worse . The number of the students with difficulties in le
21、arning English takes up over 40 percent or even worse . If this situation can't be changed , it will affect their later English learning and their development . This problem has been perplexing the teachers in rural middle school .So how to chang this kind of students is a hot point .Yet Some te
22、achers and scholars have made some research and known that their basic four skills: lisening, speaking, reading and writing are bad and their small vocabulary . We still need to analyse earnestly, find out the reasons and strategies. II. The universality of the existence of students with diffilcutie
23、s in learning English With the development of society , English is playing an important role in our life .People pay much attention to students' English learning. But for the pressure of entering a higher school, a part of teacher and parents only care about the scores and ignore the development
24、 of the emotion and ability. Meanwhile, the students have bad study habits , lower learning interests and insuitable learning methods . These kinds of reasons result in parts of students having diffilculties in learning English. A. Definition of students with learning difficultiesStudents with learn
25、ing diffilcuties refer to this group of students who do poorly in their study caused by teachers , family or themself. It is usually divided into two kinds-intellectual students with learning difficulties and unintelligent students with learning diffilculties.The former one refers to the students we
26、re born to unintelligence or are unintelligent for some disease . On the contrary ,the later one refers to the students can't reach to the besic requirements setted by teaching program but caused by their postnatal or extraneous factors. And in our teaching activity , we meet the later students
27、more.And students with difficulties in learning English we talked about are the students who have difficulties in learning English1 .B. The present situation of students with difficulties in learning English in rural middle school In rural area, the family have little income and both parents work ou
28、tside when they lack of farm work or even the whole year working outside. And then their children become left-behind children. They lack of caring and guidence in study,expecially some parents are influenced by useless reading so that they pay not enough attention on students' English learning .
29、 Though a part of students make a point of English learning , thay don't have correct ways and most students don't learn English in primary school .Comparing to the students in the city , They have already started in the beginning of distance learning. In the course of time, they become Unde
30、rachievers . As to the teachers in rural area , their expirence , academic qualifications and enthusiasm are not as good as the teachters in city. Meanwhile , the number of the class is too large so as to the poor students and the teachter is difficult to put a tutor in every place .Even some studen
31、ts are left out in the cold, they gradually lose enthusiasm for learning English.In addition , some students have just started to learn English like others , but after a period of time , they lose confidence in learning English due to various reasons .After class , they often don't finish the ho
32、mework ,don't do a good review , get a bad score and gradually hate learning English .They wander in the classroom, do other things, some people even skip school situation.C. The characteristics of students with difficulties in learning English in rural middle schoolStudents with English learnin
33、g difficulties in learning habits and learning quality mainly has following obvious characteristics2. 1. Lack of interest and initiative in learning English Research shows that, the various factors that influence learning ratio is: learning habits accounted for 33%, accounting for 26% of learning in
34、terest, intelligence factors accounted for 15%, family influence accounted for 5%, other factors accounted for 21%.Visiblely, next to learning habits , interest is the important factor influencing learning effects. Because of the limitted teachters and equipment , they don't have English classes
35、 and any interest . After a considerable period , they couldn't understand , have more and more problems and their grades are getting worse and then their confidence suffered a serious setback and have no learning initiative.2. No clear learning objectives and lack of stability in will and chara
36、cter As we all know , Rome was not built in one day .A considerable part of the students' learning objectives are not clear and it is difficult to develop a good long-term effective study habits. And they are on the stage of character formation and lack of correct cognition on themselves .If the
37、y can't achive their desired goal, they would easily lose their confidence and give up.3. No proper study habits and low learing efficiencyWe can know that students with having good learning effect all have their own effective way of learning. Most students don't want to think and summarize,
38、 and they only blindly repeat .Although some people have studied very hard, but most are twice work and half gain.4. Active and curiosity with little attentionThe main factor causing the classroom efficiency low is that the attention is not centralized. Especially for students with learning difficul
39、ties, they are more easily distracted .The classes are still the main channels for knowledge acquisition and they can't concentrate on the classes is bound to lead to poor academic performance .5. Psychological inferiority English is a kind of language so speaking is very important . I find that
40、 students with good grades and good character can easily take part in activies in class . The feeling of being recognized makes them more will to learn . But for the poor students , they are free from the outside of the classroom . Some introvert are self-contemptuous . They are afraid of making mis
41、takes and being laughed at because of their unstandard pronuncation . Then they become scanty of words .Another part of students are eager to be understood but with all the fake to hide their inner heart. They violate the discipline in the classroom to get other students' attention. The two kind
42、s of bad contradictory ways to learning make their more and more problems. Then they become the poor students . 6. Poor endurance and easy to go to extremes The middle school students are after 90 with superior material conditions of life and lack of exercise . This reduces their abilities to face t
43、he frustration. They are easily impulsive and they are easy to get out of control .High demands on others but low request on own . When they have a good mood ,they are energetic and while when they have a bad mood ,they don't think right or wrong . If they like the teacher ,they like the course
44、, or they hate the course . The vairous extreme bad mood affect them to learn more .III. The reasons of the existence of students with diffilcuties in learning EnglishThe students with difficulties in learning English exists objectively and the number of this kind of students isn't a small part
45、.They are not only exsit in our country but all over the world . And we know that most slow learners are not born but are formed in their living envirnment .So both at home and abroad , scholars have being studyed though the domestic research is a little bit later and lack of unified diagnostic stan
46、dard.They have put forward many reasons such as weak faculty, inperfect equipments,home environment and their own factors. Globally, we can know that the reasons are from all aspects including the internal causes and the external causes3.A. The internal reasons of the existence of students with diff
47、ilcuties in learning English Though everything is resulted both from the internal and external factors , the internal factors play a decisive role. So does the slow learners . We should pay more attention to their own reasons . According to the formers' reaserch and my own expirence , it is easy
48、 to find the following reasons from themselves4. 1. The students' attitude to learning Nothing is difficult if you put your heart into it . It shows that attitude is quite important for our doing thing and learning is no exception. Will is people's consciousness expression about a certain ob
49、ject purposeully and regularly . The purpose of will : people's will always has a clear objective activity . The so-called purpose is clearly aware of the main action process and result .The regulation of will: the mind of man can adjust and control his internal and external activities. During t
50、he last half year's teaching in Xuanhan Xian Chengxi Middle School , I find that a part of students are in different to study , expecially to English . Once a student said to me that :" I won't stduy English for my patriotism." and I responded him:" Studying English is to be p
51、atriotic to our country and up to now , our country still needs many high-end English talents ." And a samll part of them said that :"They don't want to study but their parents ask them to school without allowing them to work outside . So they have to stay at school ." People are
52、not heartless . There must have some emotional things among students learning activities , which is called the study emotion.Emotion is the corresponding behavioral responses according to people's attitudes about the objective things . Emotion plays an important role to study in two aspects: emo
53、tions can be amplified , improve and enhance motivation and internal signals ,thus turing into learning motivation. Students who have positive emotions in study , will feel happy when learning and won't treat study as a burden . He needs no others to urge because he develops all kinds of good st
54、udy habits easily . And learning will become this kind of students' nature . Emotion can help learners to detemine their direction of study and goal . A students produce satisfaction , the feeling of joy to the study of a subject , he would like to discuss ,research the subjects ; on the contrary ,he would avoid , dislike or even hate the subject . In the middle school where I have worked ,there are a lot of students who are lack of interest in learning English and have weak-willed in learning . D
