Also the competition helps boost public speaking in China, a skill hitherto undervalued.For me, though,the competitionis a more personal

Habitually shy, I had been reluctant totakepart in anysuchactivities.Encouragedbymyfriends,however, I made a last-minutedecisionto giveitatry.InthecourseofpreparationIsomehowrediscovered myself, a truer me.I found that,afterall,I likecommunicatingwithotherpeople; thatexchangingviews canb

4、e somuchfunandsomuchrewarding,bothemotionallyandintellectually;thatpublicspeakingis most effectivewhen you are least guarded; and that it is essentialto success in every walk of life.Ata more practicallevel,Irealizedknowingwhatyou are going to say and how you are going to say itare equally important

5、. To take the original ideas outof your head and transplant them, so to speak, to thatof others, you need to have an organized mind. Thisability improves with training.Yet there should not be any loss or addition ordistortion in the process. Those ideas that finallyfindtheirwaysintosanotherheadneedt

Language is a means to transmitinformation,not a means toobstructcommunication.Itshould be lucid to be penetrating.InChina,certainpublicspeakingskillshavebeenundulyemphasized.Willitreallyhelp,wearecompelled to ask, to bang at the podium or yell at thetop ofyourlungs,ifyouhavec

Or they were thinking of what theyhad prepared.As I said in my speech, Itis vitallyimportantthatwe young people do more serious thinking . to takethem on and givethem honest thinkingis the firststepto be prepared for both opportunities and challengescoming our way. We need to respond honestly.A competition like this draws talented studentsfrom allover the country.And of course,I learntmorethings than j
