I believe it is not a common potato, because it drew my attention with its unique shape, and also its length. Maybe I am not very familiar with raw vegetable, though

2、 I had potato and potato products nearly every day, they should came from various shapes of potatoes. In my mind, I believe potatoes should be small and round, while sweet potatoes are more likely to be much longer, bigger, and tend to be cylinder. So this long one became my chosen potato, because i

3、t changed my “common sense”. This is our first met, and how I chose it, or it chose me.Then we did the activity to find the potato that described by one of the classmates. My potato was found soon, the reason was not my accurate description, but a long potato was easy to be found.When I knew that ou

4、r assignment this week is to observe this potato, and write a three-page long journal, I realized it was a tough work, even kind of impossible.When I took it back to my room, I started to explore this little guy. Just as the famous saying goes: “There are no two identical leaves in the world.”This p

5、otato must be the one and only. Tough it was kind of a shape of cylinder, its top side was curving upward, just like a boat. Therewere still soil on its surface, and some little holes. Icounted the number of holes, which was 19. The counting process was not that simple, because I always afraid that

6、I ignore or count a hole more than once. At first I supposed the holes are distributing randomly, however, when I took a deep look, I found that they are in a regular distribution, which is a way of helical structure. I was also very curious about what is the function of the little holes. Since peop

7、le have five senses, and I only used visual sense first. I put the potato near my nose, but I can smell hardly anyodor. I made it closer, until my nose touched it. I could only felt the smell of dust, instead of the odor from the potato itself. Then I pressed it hard with two fingers, while the shap

8、e did not change at all. I did not believe a potato can make any sound, so I did not use the sense of hearing. I had eaten potatoes thousands of times, and did not want to consume it so quick. It was the first potato selected by me, if we could talk, he would be my good friend.After my first steps o

9、bservation, I put it on a prominent position of my table, so I can take a close look at it every day. In the first two days, I can hardly found any changes on its surface. When I pressed it, I found it was softer than before, maybe it was because it absorbed the water in the air, and these rainy day

10、s made a high air humidity. I decided to cut a part of the potato to observe inside of it. Unlike apples or pears, there was no juice in it. The color inside was bright white, compared with its dusty surface. The peel was even thinner than a fingernail. I touched the cut section with my finger, felt

11、 a little more wet, and colder inside. This time, when it approached my nose, I could catch the smell, which was not strong or sweet, differ from many fruits. If I can compare the potato to a person, he must be a man who is down to earth,and alwayskeep a low profile.Nearly one week later since I too

12、k this potato back to my room, I eventually know the function of the holes. Every hole had a little bud came from it, some were big, like a bamboo shoot; while some were so tiny that I could only see a greendot.The largest bud is in the middle of the potato, maybe it could imbibe the nutrition from

13、the different parts easier. Germinating of a potato cannot be a good thing. When I was young, my mother told me that germinant potatoes were poisonous. So I had to give up the thought of eating it after finishing this journal. What surprised me most was that the cut section became black and wrinkled

14、 a layer of white mildew covered half of the section, and it was no longer wet and cold anymore.So these are all I got from observing this potato. Though once I felt confused and thought it might be an absurd thing, the result came that I certainly gained something I did not know before from this observation.
