(A Collection of American Essays)中英对照本。 On one of those sober and rather melancho1y days

I wondered why I had no idea of some unyielding life sprouting over the fallen petals when I was grieving for the hibiscus.

、 When I saw her I was shocked, since I immediately recognized her from church but had no idea that it was she who wrote the notes. She was sitting in a chair in the office with her hands folded in her lap. Her head was bowed and when she raised it to look at me, she could barely smile without pain.

、what it is that matters. She found beauty and grace and they befriended her, and showed her what is real.
Of LoveThe stage is more beholding to love, than the life
、 of man. For as to the stage, love is ever matter of comedies, and now and then of tragedies; but in life it does much mischief; sometimes like a siren, sometimes like a fury.
