14、zed in New York Harbor by Act of Congress, 1877, was selected by General William Tecumseh Sherman, who settled on Bartholdis own choice, then known as Bedloes Island, where there was already an early 19th century star-shaped fortification. The Statue was completed in France in July, 1884 and arrived

15、 in New York Harbor on June 17, 1885 on board the French frigate Isere. To prepare for transit, the Statue was reduced to 350 individual pieces and packed in 214 crates. 7.Fundraising, criticism, and construction in the United States As with all historic areas administered by the National Park Servi

16、ce, Statue of Liberty National Monument, along with Ellis Island and Liberty Island, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 15.1966. In 1984, the Statue of Liberty was added to the World Heritage List. 8. New Torch Original torch, replaced in 1986.A new torch replaced the
