Rob Reiners Flipped does thelooking.Here is a lovely movie about a girl who has adored a boy ever since hemoved into the neighborhood in the second grade. S

3、he even likes hissmell, and it is true we cannot love someone who isnt aromatic to ourhearts. All through grade school and into high school, she pursues him;theyre likethe runners in Keats “Ode on a GreciahoUrursueeach other for eternity without ever drawing closer. In Reiners film, theyflip and sta

4、rt running in the other direction.Madeline Carroll plays Juli Baker, who was determined to get BryceLoski (Callan McAuliffe) to like her when they were kids, but in eighthgrade has turned her attention to more urgent matters, like sparing the lifeof the beautiful sycamore tree in her front 英文影评 It i

If he were Bryce, hednotice a girl like that. Bryce begins to catch on.There are difficulties and the possibility of heartbreak. Th

6、ere always arein high school. You wear your sleeve on your heart. There are parents.Not everybody has parents like Juno did. If Juno had ordinary parents, herstory would be a grim morality play. But Flipped doesnt haul in standardparents of teenagers. Reiner wisely casts gifted actors (Aidan Quinn a

7、ndPenelope Ann Miller as the Bakers, and Anthony Edwards and RebeccaDe Mornay as the Loskis). He knows that Mahoney can save a wisegrandfather from cornball with sheer brute force of niceness.Theres a screenplay device by Reiner and Andrew Scheinman, based onthe novel by Wendelin Van Draanan, that c

8、ould be arduous but workshere because it has been thought through. The key events in the film areseen from both points of view: Bryces and Julis. Teenagers often lose thebeat emotionally, and these two need John Philip Sousa. There isnttrickery: The scenes happen as they seem to, and not in alternat

But they seem so different, depending on who is seeing them.Theres one of those events so beloved by teenage girls in which they canexact excruciating embarrassment on boys while seeming to be blithelyunaware. The boys are auctioned off to the girls as lunch room partners toraise money f

10、or charity. Yeah, thats what a guy wants, to stand onstagewhile the most patronizing teacher in the school handles the bidding. Ofcourse, it all goes tragically wrong for Juli and Bryce, but for what seemslike different reasons.Reiner sets most of the movie in 1963 (his classic Stand by Me, is set a

11、few years earlier, in 1959), and I dont think its just for nostalgia. In away, thats the last year of American teenage innocence, before the 60stook hold. Madeline Carroll and Callan McAuliffe, who both lookteeth-achingly vulnerable, are sincere and pure and wholesome, and arecharacters we believe can be hurt. Some of todays teenagers are morewounded and cynical than their parents ever were. And for some of themsex is not an undiscovered country.Maybe what makes Flipped such
