NorthernAnhuiwasfirmlyapartoftheNorthChinaPlainintermsofculture.CentralAnhuiconstitutedmostofthefertileanddensely-populatedHuaiheRiverwatershed.SouthernAnhui,alongtheYangtze,wasclosertoHubeiandsouthernJiangsuprovincesinculture.Finally,thehillsofsoutheasternAnhuiformedauniqueanddistinctculturalsphereofitsown.Sceneryof
