Butcomputersareproficientatanalyzingsymbols;itisthemessinessoftherealworldthat
theyhavetroublewith.Therefore,manyofthejobsthatoncerequiredacollegedegreehavebeen
eliminated.Theotherscanbedonebyanyintelligentperson,whetherornothehasstudied
literature.
Thistrendshouldhavebeenobviousin1996.Eventhen,American'srichestmanwasBill
Gates,acollegedropoutwhodidnotneedalotofformaleducationtobuildtheworld'smost
powerfulinformationtechnologycompany.
Orconsiderthepanicover“downsizing”thatgrippedAmericain1996.Aneconomist
quicklypointouttherateatwhichAmericanswerelosingjobsinthe1990swasnotespecially
