WhatVolunteersAreNeededThevolunteersmentionedintheBeijingOlympicVolunteerProgramrefertothosewhowillserveotherpeople,society,andtheOlympicGamesfromnowuntil2008throughoutthepreparationandholdingoftheOlympicandParalympicGames.Theywilloperateonthebasisoffreewill,intheformofvolunteerserviceandwithinthesystemoftheBeijingOlympicvolunteerProgram.Theyinclude“TowardsOlympics”volunteers,Games-timevolunteers,ParalympicGames-timevolunteers,BOCOGpre-Gamesvolunteers,CityVolunteersandSocietyVolunteers.“TowardsOlympics”Volunteers“TowardsOlympics”volunteersrefertothosewhorequestextensiveparticipationofcitizensandhelpbuildasocialphenomenonasthewholenationmovestowardstheOlympics.(1)Criteria—Individuals,familiesfromvariousethnicgroupsandallwalksoflifeandunitsinvarioustradesandindustriescanparticipateinthe“TowardsOlympics”voluntaryactivitiesaslongastheyareinterestedintheOlympicMovement,eagertoworkforpublicwelfareundertakingsandwillingtocontributetotheOlympicGames.(2)ThemaintasksoftheprojectincludepopularizingtheOlympicMovementandtheconceptofvolunteerservice,boostingpublicrecognitionandinvolvement,improvingthequalityofthevolunteerservices,establishingmechanismsformassparticipationinvoluntaryserviceactivities,enhancingcivicquality,buildingupBeijing'snewimage,andpromotingharmonioussocialdevelopment.OlympicGames-timeVolunteersOlympicGames-timevolunteersrefertothoserecruiteddirectlybyBeijingOrganizingCommitteefortheGamesoftheXXIXOlympiad(BOCOG).TheywillacceptmanagementofBOCOG,haveOlympicaccreditation,andbeissuedOlympicidentitycards,performpost-specificresponsibilitiesduringtheGames,workatthetimesandplacesdesignatedbyBOCOG,andserveattheBeijingOlympicGameswithoutpay.ThisisageneralpolicyappliedtoalltheOlympicGames-timevolunteers.(1)Criteria—AbidingbyChineselawsandregulations,beingenthusiasticforpublicwelfareundertakings,beingabletocommunicateinforeignlanguages,satisfyingBOCOG’srequirementsonworkingtime,andbeingqualifiedforthepostsforwhichtheyapply.Asforprofessionalvolunteers,apartfrommeetingthefundamentaldemandslistedabove,theyshouldalsopossesstheprofessionalskillsandexpertiserequiredfortheirspecificposts.(2)Theirmaintaskswillbe:ProvidequalityvolunteerservicestothemembersoftheOlympicFamily,athletes,referees,mediareporters,spectatorsandotherrelatedpersonnel.Itisestimatedthatabout70,000Games-timevolunteerswillbeneeded.TherecruitmentofGames-timevolunteerswillbelaunchedattheendofAugust2006andcompletedinMarch2008.Games-timeVolunteersfortheParalympicGamesGames-timevolunteersfortheParalympicGamesrefertothevolunteersrecruiteddirectlybyBOCOGorrecruitedbyentrustedagencies.TheywillreceivemanagementofBOCOG,haveParalympicaccreditation,andbeissuedParalympicidentityCards,takepost-specificresponsibilitiesduringtheParalympicGames,workatthetimesandvenuesdesignatedbyBOCOG,andserveattheBeijingParalympicGameswithoutpay.(1)Criteria—AbidebyChineselawsandregulations,meetrequirementsofvolunteersspecifiedbyBOCOG(suchasage),possessqualificationsandqualitiesforthepostsattheParalympicGames,bewillingtooffervoluntaryservicesforBOCOGandaccepttheleadershipandmanagementofBOCOG.Paralympicvolunteersalsohavetobedeeplyconcernedaboutthedisabledandequippedwithcertainknowledgeandskillstohelpthedisabledofnursing.SomeoftheOlympicGames-timevolunteerswillbeselectedtocontinueservingintheParalympicGames.(2)Tasks—DuringtheParalympicGames,volunteerswillprovideefficientandthoughtfulservicestomembersoftheParalympicFamily,athletes,referees,mediareporters,spectatorsandotherparticipants.TheircontributionwillmaketheOlympicGamesandParalympicGames“equallysplendid”.ThemainserviceareaandmissionoftheParalympicvolunteerprojectwillbedefinedinreferencetothoseoftheOlympicGameswithpartialadjustmentsinlightofthedifferencesoftheParalympicGames.Itisestimatedthatabout30,000Games-timevolunteerswillbeneededfortheParalympicGames.BOCOGpre-GamesVolunteersBOCOGpre-GamesvolunteersrefertopersonsrecruitedtoparticipateintheroutinesorspecialactivitiesofBOCOGandoffervoluntaryservicestoBOCOGatthepreparatorystageoftheOlympicGames.Universitystudentsandprofessionalvolunteerswillconstitutethemajorityofthepre-Gamesvolunteers.(1)Criteria—AbidebytheChineselawsandregulations,satisfytherequirementsandcriteriaspecifiedbyBOCOG,possessthequalificationsandabilitiesforthedesignatedposts,bewillingtooffervoluntaryservicesforBOCOG,andaccepttheleadershipandmanagementofBOCOG.(2)Recruitmentandmanagement—Pre-GamesvolunteerswillberecruiteddirectlybyBOCOGorbyentrustedinstitutions,accordingtotheactualneedsofBOCOG.Thepre-GamesvolunteerprojectwasstartedinMarch2004.Themanagementofthepre-GamesvolunteerswillbepartoftheBOCOGroutinemanagementsystem.Regularevaluationandassessmentwillbemadeontheperformanceofthevolunteers,andappropriatecitationsandrewardswillbegivenonthatbasis.(3)Training—BOCOGwillorganizegenerictrainingandrelatedprofessionaltrainingcoursesaccordingtothedutiesofthepre-Gamesvolunteers,inordertogivethemabetterknowledgeofBOCOG,helpthemadapttotheirworkenvironmentandposts,andbringtheirrolesintofullplay.BOCOGplanstoselectanumberofpre-Games
