TheCTDpackageconsistsofacylindricalsteelframeworkapprox.2minheightand1.75mindiameteratitslargestpoint.Theframeworksupportsanarrayofsensorsaswellasavarietyofwaterbottleoptionsvaryingfor10to20litresincapacity.

Theoverallweightofthepackageisapprox.750Kginair.

ThetaskinvolvesliftingthepackageontheCTDcableamidships,movingitoverthesidethenloweringitintotheseaonthestarboardsideofthevessel.Recoveryisthereverseofthisprocedurewiththeadditionalhazardofincreasedweightduetowatercollected.

TotalCTDdeploymentsonthiscruiseshouldbeshort,butadvancedplanningandcontinuouscommunicationwithallpartiesinvolvedneedstobeestablishedtoinsurethatdeterioratingweatheroriceconditionsdoesnotadverselyeffecteitherthesafetyofthoseinvolvedintheoperationorthevesselitself.
