动词不定式(短语)作表语
当句子的主语是不定式时,系动词后可接不定式作表语,用于解释主语所描述的行为或说明该行为带来的结果。

类似用法还包括一些格言警句:

表意功能及主要用法:
动词不定式(短语)作表语
当不定式作表语时,能够担当句子主语的名词比较有限,它们大多用于表示某种情形或状况,包括advice、aim、ambition、custom、business、desire、difficulty、duty、experience、habit、happiness、hope、idea、intention、job、method、plan、principle、problem、purpose、reason、risk、role、task、thing、wish等。

有时,根据表达的需要,在作表语的不定式前,还可添加疑问代词或疑问副词,包括what、who、how、when、where等。

表意功能及主要用法:
动词不定式(短语)作表语
当主语包含定语从句且其先行词为代词all或形容词最高级形式theleast、themost时,后可接“系动词+不定式”作句子的表语。
Allhewantedwastobeleftalone.
TheleastIcanexpectistohavethisdayalltomyself.
当不定式作表语时,句子的主语还可以是what引导的主语从句。
WhatIwanttodonowis(to)havearest.
表意功能及主要用法:
省略to的情况:
(1)all作主句主语,其后的定语从句含有实义动词do的某种形式时。
Allweneedtodoisliveeachdaywithhope.
(2)what引导的从句作主语,从句中含有实义动词do的某种形式时。
WhatIwanttodoistakeaholidayrightaway.
(3)(主句)主语被only,first,one,last或形容词最高级修饰,且其后
作定语的从句或短语中含有实义动词do的某种形式时。

动词不定式(短语)作表语
与V-ing(短语)作表语的区别
(1)与句子的主语在形式上保持一致,即若句子主语为V-ing(短语),则表语也应使用V-ing(短语);若主语为动词不定式(短语),则表语也应用动词不定式(短语)。
(2)动词不定式(短语)和V-ing(短语)有时可换用,但以下情况除外:
当动词所表达的是某一特定的行为,尤其是将来的行为或有待于实现的行为时,通常用动词不定式(短语)作表语。
若动词所表达的并不强调动作,而是表示主语的内容,则通常
用V-ing(短语)作表语。
