COMPRESSIONTEST TheCompressiontestswillbeperformedoncubes150x150x150mmasdescribedinBS1881Part116.Sampling,makingtestcubesandcuringofcubeswillbeinaccordwithBS1881Parts101,108and111respectively.3.4FORMWORK3.4.1 General Formworkwillineveryrespectbeadaptedtothestructureandtherequiredsurfacefinishoftheconcrete.Itwillincludealltemporarymouldsforformingtheconcretetotherequiredshapeandfinishandforthesupportofsuchmoulds.Itwillbefixedinperfectalignmentandsecurelyledgedandbracedsoastobeabletowithstand,withoutdisplacementdeflectionormovementofanykind,theweightoftheconstructionandthemovementofpersonsmaterialsandplant.Jointswillbecloseenoughtopreventtheleakageofliquidandfinematerialsfromtheconcrete.TheEngineer'sRepresentativemayatanytimerequirethepriorsubmissionforapprovalofCHEC'sproposalsfordesignandconstructionofformworkincludingsupports.Theformworkwillbeconstructedtopermititsremovalwithoutdamagetotheconcrete.3.4.2 SpacingBlocksandTemporaryConstructionTies Internalspacingblocksandconstructiontieswillbeavoidedasfaras,intheEngineer'sRepresentativeopinion,possibleandpracticable.Whereitisintendedthatthespacingblocksorconstructiontieswillberemovedwhetherbeforeoraftertheconcretehasset,themakinggoodoftheconcretewillbesubjecttotheEngineer'sRepresentative'sapproval.Theremovaloftheblocksortiesmustnotjeopardisethestabilityoftheconstruction.If,withtheapprovaloftheEngineer'sRepresentative,thespacingblocksandconstructiontiesareallowedtoremainintheconcretethentheywillbeofsuchmaterialandofsuchqualitythattheydonotprejudicethestrengthofthework. Concretespacingblockswillbemadeofconcreteatleastequalinqualitytothemainconcrete.Metaltieswillbepositionedsuchthattheydonotcomeintocontactwithanyofthereinforcementorfittingsandnopartofthetiewillbepermanentlyembeddedintheconcretenearerthan5cmtotheexteriorsurfaceoftheconcrete. Allholeswillbefilledwithnon-shrinkgrant.3.4.3 SlabFormsWheretimberisusedforthesoffitsofslabs,theboardswillbeplacedandlaidperfectlytruewithclosejointstopreventthepercolationofliquidorfinesfromtheconcrete.Tongueandgrooveplankswillbeusedifspecified.Allrequisitebearerandstrutswillbeadjustedinpositionandplacedwherenecessaryonbearersasspecifiedinthecaseofbeamforms.3.4.4 TypeofFormwork3.4.4.1 ExposedConcreteFacesAllconcretefaceswillbeleftasstruckwithafairface,truetolinefinish.Inordertohavethefinishasitwillbeformed,approvedbytheEngineer,testpiecesof1sq.mverticalpanel25cmthickwillbecast.AfterapprovaltheywillberetainedinpositionuntiltheconcreteworkshavebeencompletedthentheywillbedemolishedandremovedfromtheWorks.Aftercarefulinspection,allsuperfluousfinesandsimilarprojectionswillbecarefullyremoved.Norenderorotherappliedfinishwillbeusedtoobtainafairfacetotheconcrete.AllconcretefacestobeexposedinthefinishedworkswillbeadequatelyprotectedagainstdamageandsurfacestainingduringtheexecutionoftheWorks.3.4.2 PreparationofFormworkforConcretingImmediatelybeforetheconcreteisdeposited,theformworkwillbethoroughlycleanedoutandfreedfromsawdust,shavings,wirecuttings,dust,sand,clayandallotherdeleteriousandextraneousmaterials.Temporaryopeningswillbeprovidedintheformworktofacilitatethiswork.Theinsidesurfacesoftheformworkwill,immediatelypriortofinalerection,becoatedwithmouldoil.Themouldoilwillbeofapprovedtypeandwillbeapplieduniformlyandthequantitiesusedwillbetheminimumconsistentwithitspurposes.CHECwillensurethatallsteelreinforcementandadjoiningconcretesurfacesarekeptfreeofmouldoil.Allformworkandreinforcementwillbecleanandfreefromstandingwaterimmediatelybeforeplacingconcrete.3.4.3 ApprovalofFormworkbeforeConcretingCHECwillinallcasesrequesttheapprovaloftheformworkbytheEngineer'sRepresentativeinsufficienttimetoallowaninspectiontobemadeandwillnotcommenceconcretinguntilsuchapprovalisobtained.TheperiodbetweenCHEC'srequestforapprovalandhisintentiontocommenceconcretingwillbenotlessthanoneclearnormalworkingdayandtheEngineer'sRepresentativemayrequirealongerperiodif,inhisopinion,theformworkisofsuchcomplexityastorequireit.SuchapprovalwillnotabsolveCHECofhisresponsibilitiesundertheContract.3.4.4 RemovalofFormwork Allformworkswillbestruckwithoutjarringtheconcreteorsubjectingthesametosuddenshock. Beforestrikinganyformwork,CHECwillsatisfyhimselfthattheconcreteissufficientlyhardenedtobearitsownloadandanyotherloadsthatmaybeplacedonit. Noformworkistoberemoved,ifintheopinionoftheEngineer'sRepresentative,theconcretehasnotsetsufficiently. ApprovaloftheEngineer'sRepresentativewillnotabsolveCHECofhisresponsibilitiesundertheContract.Subjecttotheaboveandtheconcretetestcuberesults,theminimumperiodsfortheremovalofformworkgenerallyareasfollows: Sidesofbeams,wallsandcolumns - 2days Soffitsofbeamsandslabs(propsleftin) - 7days Removalofprops(beamsandslabs) -14days Soffitsofprecastbeams - 7days (ThesetimesmaybereducedonlywiththewrittenapprovaloftheEngineer) Inthecaseofthespecialtypesofformwork,strikingtimesaretobeapprovedbytheEngineer.Ifabeamslabisrequiredtosupportaconstructionloadinexcessofitsdesignload,thebeamorslabistobeproppeduntilthesupportedconstructionhasreachedtheagewhentheproppingmayberemoved.NosupportsfortheshutteringmaybeleftinthefinishedconcretewithoutthewrittenpermissionoftheEngineer.3.4.5 ConcreteBelowGround AllconcreteplacedbelowgroundlevelwillhaveaminimumprotectiontoitsoutsidefaceswithabituminousmembraneasperClauseofthisSpecification.3.5REINFORCEMENTSTEEL3.5.1 GeneralALLREINFORCEMENT(BARTYPEDESIGNATION'T')WILLBEEPOXYCOATEDHIGHYIELDDEFORMEDTYPE2GRADE460N/mm²BARSTOBS4449.CHECwillberesponsibleforfurnishingreinforcingsteelinsufficientquantityandofthepropersizes,lengthsandshapesshownontheDrawingsforanygivenstructure.3.5.2 MaterialSpecifications AllreinforcementbarswillbeofadeformedtypeinaccordancewithBS4449,exceptthatplainbarsmaybeusedwherespecificallyindicatedontheDrawings.PlainbarswillbeinaccordancewithBS4449.
