Readandunderstandthesampletext.Directstudentstothephoto,thecaptionandthetitle.Ask“Whatdoyouthinkthearticlewillbeabout?”Elicittheresultsofschoolsportsgames.Ifyoufeelyourstudentsarereadytodotheexercise,youmayskipthisstep.
Say“Readthereport.Whichteamswerethebestandtheworstintheschool?”Monitorasstudentsreadthefirsttime,offeringassistanceasneeded.Afterstudentshavefinishedreading,ask“Whichteamswerethebestandtheworst?”ElicitClassThreewasthebest,andClassOnewastheworst.
Say"Readthearticleagain.pletethetablebelow".Monitor,offeringhelpasneeded.Ifstudentsneedsupport,havethemworkinpairs.
Goovertheanswers,firsthavingstudentsparetheiranswerswitheachother.Thenaskindividualstudentstosaytheanswersaloud,astheypleteasimilartableontheboard.Encouragestudentstoanswerinpletesentences.

Brainstormwhatyouwanttowrite.Writesomeadjectivesandadverbsontheboard,forexample,good,bad,fast,high,long,etc.Alternatively,elicitthesefromstudents,askingthemtothinkofadjectivesandadverbsthatdescribesportsgames.Askstudentstotellyoutheparativeandsuperlativeformsofthewords.Elicittherulesforformingparativesandsuperlatives,remindingstudentstousethanwithparativesandtheorapossessiveadjectivewithsuperlatives.Ifyoufeelyourstudentsareready,youmayskipthisstep.
