Exercise1

Purpose:tohelpstudentsknowschoolthings

Havethefollowingschoolthings,orpicturesofthem,onhand:chalk,DVDplayer,exercisebook,pencil,plant,taperecorder,schoolbag,TV,watch,window.Spreadthemoutonyourdeskorhavethemnearby.Holduporpointtooneobjectorpicture,forexample,pencil,andsay"What'sthis?"Elicitpencil.Saythewordagainandhavestudentsrepeat.Holduporpointtoeachitemorpicture,oneaftertheother,followingthesameprocedure.Elicitorprovidetheanswers.

Holdupthepencil,askingagain"Whatisit?"Afterstudentsanswer,ask"Howdoyouspellit?"Haveastudentetotheboardandwritetheword.Continueinthiswayuntilalltheschoolthingshavebeenwrittenontheboard.Revisethevocabularybyholdinguporpointingtoanobjectandsaying"LookattheKeyWords.Pointtothewordinyourbookandsayit".Monitor,makingsurestudentsarepointingtothecorrectwordastheysayit.Checkstudents'pronunciationoftheKeyWords.Ifyoufeelyourstudentsarereadytodotheexercise,youmayskipthesetwosteps.

Directstudentstothepictureoftheclassroominthebook.Pointtoitem1,window,andask"What'sthis?"Elicitwindow.Say"NowlabelthethingsinthepictureswiththeKeyWords".Monitorasyourstudentslabelthethingsinpicture.Ifstudentsneedsupport,youmayhavethemworkinpairs.

HaveonhandtheobjectsorpicturesofthesecondsetofKeyWords:blackboard,book,chair,desk,dictionary,door,eraser,pen,picture,ruler,shelf.Beginbyholdinguporpointingtooneobjectorpictureandask"Whatisit?"Elicittheanswerandcontinueinthiswaywiththerestoftheobjects.Followthesameprocedureasabove.
