常用的情态动词包括can(could),may(might),will(would),shall(should),must,need,dare,hadbetter,oughtto,usedto等。 但也有区别:(1)beableto有多种时态,如:was/wereableto,will/shallbeableto,have/hasbeenableto等,而can只有两种时态,即can和could。 Eg:ShecansingthesonginEnglish.Eg:HewillbeabletosingthissonginEnglishinafewminutes,too.(3)beableto强调一种结果,而can只强调一种可能。

Eg:Luckily,hewasabletoescapefromthebigfireintheend.

Eg:Ifhegothereafewhoursearlier,Icouldsavehim.(4)beableto的否定形式是在be后面直接加not,即benotableto。

Eg:Thekidisnotabletowrite.Eg:But

【haveto的用法】1.haveto意为“不得不,必须”。后跟动词原形。Eg:Ihavetobeoffnow.Thetrainisleavinginanhour.2.haveto与must的区别:(1)must强调说话者的主观意愿;

Eg:Thelastbusleft,andJohnhadtowalkhome.

Eg:Youmustn’tbelatefortheexam.

Eg:Anndoesn’thavetocookforherself.Sheworksatahotelandgetsallhermealsthere.hadbetter后跟动词原形,表示“最好……”,其否定形式是在hadbetter后加not,疑问式是把had和not提前。Eg:Youhadbetternottalkwithstrangers.Eg:Onehadbetterseelifeinitsvariousaspectswhenyoung. Eg:HowdareyousayI’munfair2. Eg:Motherdare(d)nottellfathershe'dgivenawayhisoldjacket.3.dare用作实义动词,有时态、人称和数的变化。 Eg:Iwonderhowhedares(to)saysuchthings.Eg:Hedoesnotdare(to)answer.【need的用法】1.need表示“需要”或“必须”,作情态动词时,用于否定句和疑问句中,在肯定句中一般用must,haveto,oughtto或should代替。 Eg:Youneedtopracticereadingaloudeveryday.

注意对need问句的回答:—NeedIfinishtheworktoday—Yes,youmust./No,youneedn’t./No,youdon’thaveto.needn’t对其它情态动词的回答:—ShallItellJohnaboutit—No,youneedn’t/don’thaveto.—Mustwedoitnow—No,youneedn’t/don’thaveto.3.CompletethetipsforgoodtablemannerswiththecorrectformofthemodalsinActivity1.WhilegoingonyourfirsttriptotheUKisexciting,newanddifferentcustomscanalsobeconfusing.Tablemannersarenoexception.Butdon’tworry—herearesometips:•You1._________waituntileveryoneelsehasbeenservedbeforeyoustarteating.•Sometimestherearesomanyknivesandforksthatyou2.__________pickthemupincaseyougetitwrong.Thetrickistostartwiththeonesontheoutside.•Whenyoufinishyourmeal,you3.____________placetheknifeandforktogetheronyourplatewiththehandlesatthefouro’clockposition.Tablemanners,however,candifferindifferentsituations.Forexample,you4.______________________useaknifeandforkwheneatingahamburgerorpizza.Justremember:wheninRome,doastheRomansdo,andyouwill5.__________enjoythelocalcuisine!havetodarenothadbetterneedn’t
