(1722)andHandbookofEnglishMerchants(1725).HismasterpieceRobinsonCrusoetellsofthestoryoftheshipwreckedCrusoe'ssolitaryexistenceonadesertedislandformorethan28years,ofhisencounterwiththenativeFriday,andofhiseventualrescueandhissubsequentadventures.Sinceitspublication,ithasdrewmillionsofreadersandtheircomments.ForeignscholarshaveconductedextensiveresearchonRobinsonCrusoerangingfromnavigation,colonization,desertedislands,loneliness,perseverance,achievement,togrowth.HildaJeyakumariBrainee(2021)pointedoutthatself-monitoringandasuitablelivingenvironmentwasthebestchoicesforeradicatingopportunitiesforlonelydevelopment.GuoLingyi(2022)arguedthenovelwasabouttheprotagonist'sadventures,sojourns,andexplorationsonadesertedisland,whosepreviousworkingexperiencesreallycontributedtohislatersuccessfulsurvivalanddevelopment.AlaAlryyes(2020)analyzedcharacterizationofRobinsonCrusoeandstudiedbothhisastutevoyagesandhislaterclaimstosovereigntyandthepossessionof'his'islands.Domesticscholarsmainlyfocusontheprotagonist'sidentity,personality,navigation,colonialism,loneliness,andsurvival.LiJiacheng(2022)thoughtthatDanielDefoe,theauthor,hassuccessfullycreatedthecharacterimageofRobinsonbyusingavarietyofdescriptivemethodsandsettingupupsanddownsoftheplot.ZengJing(2015)andZhangGaisheng(2021)emphasizedthatRobinsonreliedonhispersonalsurvivalwisdom,tenaciouswill,andhardworktosurviveonanisolatedisland.ZhangJuntao(2018)analyzedtheprotagonistRobinson'sresoluteandadventurouspersonality.WuTingting(2021)comparedRobinsonCrusoewithHemingway'sTheOldManandtheSea.ShebelievedthatthetwowriterssuccessfullyportrayedtheheroesofRobinsonandSantiago,whofoughtalonebutdemonstratedextraordinaryperseveranceandcourage.WuXiuju(2022)debatedthatRobinsonwasamanifestationofthegreed,conquest,andpossessionoftheemergingbourgeoisieaftertheEnlightenment.LiXiangmentionedthat"roseswillneverfallfromthesky.Ifyouwantmoreroses,youmustplantthemyourself."RobinsonCrusoeillustratesthispoint,shapingatireless,restless,andself-reliantactor-Robinson.GuXingbin(1995)saidthattheso-calledmiddleclass,bothtraditionallyandliterally,referstothebourgeoisiewithintermediateindustries.LiuLiu(2014)mentionedthattheydonothavetoengageinhardphysicallaborlikethelowerclass,butstillhavenomeansofliving.PanYuhui(2023)mentionedthathecouldhavelivedapeacefulandprosperouslifeaccordingtohisfather'sarrangement,buthewasanxiousaboutthecurrentsituationandlongedforadventure,ultimatelychoosingtosailontheperiloussea.GuoXi(2010)mentionedthatatthebeginningofthearticle,Robinson'sfatherwarnedhimmanytimesthatthedreamofsailingwouldbringhimmisfortune;AndconcludedthatifRobinsoninsistedontakingrisks,thenGodwouldnotblesshim.LiuHanying(2018)mentionedthatRobinson'smoralintrospectionandreligiousconversionbeganatthebeginningofhislanding.HeerectedahugecrossontheislandtomarkhisbearingsandshowhisdevotiontoGod.Later,theBiblehefoundinthewreckbecameanimportantspiritualpillar.XuCunyong(2011)mentionedthatearlyRobinsondaredtodisobeyhisfather'sordersanddidnotbelieveinreligionandGod,butthecollectiveunconsciousnessofreligiouscomplexhadasubtleimpactonhiminthedark.Inhisfirstfewadventures,wheneverheencounteredsetbacks,hecouldn'thelpbutthinkofGod,prayforhisblessings,andconfesstoGod.However,everytimeheescapeddanger,hewouldforgetaboutGod.GaoGuaili(2010)mentionedthatRobinsonwasontheisland,andheovercamepessimism,builtshelters,madeutensils,tamedwildanimals,ploughedtheland,andusedallkindsofmethodstofindfood.ZhiJiewen(2022)mentionedthatRobinsonactivelyusednaturalresources,harvestedfruit,madetoolstohuntgoats,raisedlivestock,grewfood,fortifiedhisdwellings,builtships,andsoon.Despitethedifficultiesheencounteredintheprocess,suchasdrought,heavyrain,strongwindsandotherharshnaturalconditions,henevergaveupthedesiretosurvive.YuanDi(2017)mentionedthatRobinsonwasbornintoamiddle-classfamily.However,hewasnotcontentwithenjoyingarichandplainlifeanddidnotwanttorelyoneverythinghisparentsgavehim.Hechosetocomplywithhisinnerthoughtsanddesires,andresolutelychosehisbelovedcareer-goingtosea.DespitemanydifferentresearchesonRobinsonCrusoebothathomeandabroad,fewhaveconductedacomprehensiveandin-depthstudy.TheauthorwonderswhetheritistruethatitisjustbecauseofRobinsonCrusoe’suniquepersonalitythathecouldsurviveontheisland,whetherRobinsonhimselfisthemasterofhisownfate.ThispaperattemptstoexploreRobinsonCrusoe'sspiritof"IamtheMasterofMyFate".TheEmbodimentofRobinsonCrusoe’sSpiritof“IamtheMasterofMyFate”Robinson'sspiritof'IamtheMasterofMyFate'ismainlyreflectedinbothmaterialandspiritualaspects.Intermsofmaterials,itisnothingmorethanthefouraspectsof"clothing,food,housing,andtransportation".Therefore,solvingtheproblemof"food,clothing,housing,andtransportation"hasbecomethetoppriorityafterRobinson'sexileonadesertedisland.So,howdoesheembodythespiritof"IamtheMasterofMyFate"insolvingmaterialproblemssuchas"clothing,food,housing,andtransportation"?Inaddition,intermsofspirit,howdoesRobinsonembodyhisspiritof"IamtheMasterofMyFate"?Thischapterwillprovideyouwithanswersonebyone.2.1Self-relianceinmaterialtermsUnderhar
