ItisAugust1939,andagroupoffrightenedchildrenareboarding'atrainat

Prague'sWilsonStation.Theirheart-brokenparentsdonotjointhem.Indeed,they

feartheymayneverseetheirchildrenagain.Buttheyknowthattheirchildrenwill

NicholasWintonwasbornon19May1909inLondon,toGerman-Jewishparents.

ThefamilylatertookBritishnationality∖Onleavingschool,Wintonworkedinbanks

inGermanyandFrance.HereturnedtoBritainin1931,whereheworkedinbusiness.

InDecember1938,afriendaskedWintontocometoPraguetoaidpeoplewhowere

escapingfromtheNazis.InPrague,Wintonsawpeoplelivinginterribleconditions

andwhoseliveswereindanger.Hedecidedtohelptransportchildrentosafety

inBritain.Heestablishedanofficetokeeprecordsofthechildren,andthen

returnedtoBritaintofindtemporary,homesforthem.HeUSeddonatedfunds"and

hisownmoneytoPayth650PoundsperchildthattheBritishgovernmentrequired.By

August1939,Wintonhadsaved669children.

DuringWorldWarII,WintonservedasanofficerinBritain,SRoyalAirForce.He

leftthemilitaryin1954.Hethenworkedforinternationalcharitiesandforvarious

companies.Forthemostpart,hedidnotmentionthechildrenhesaved,andhisactions

soondisappearedfrompeople,Smemories.

Thatal1changedin1988whenhiswifeGretefoundaforgottenjournalathome.The

journalcontainedphotographsandnamesofthechildrenandaddressesofthefamilies

thattookthemin'.Shesentthejournaltoanewspaper,andthatyearWintonwas

seenontheBritishtelevisionprogrammeThatisLife.Atonepoint,thehostasked

peopleintheaudiencetostandupifNicholasWintonhadsavedtheirlives.Ashocked

Wintonwatchedasthemajorityofpeoplerosetotheirfeet.Theprogrammebrought

hisactionstopublicattention,andWintonbecamearespectedfigurearoundthe

world.

Later,Wintonreceivedvarioushonoursforhisachievement,includinga

knighthood(爵士封号)in2003,andtheCzechgovernment,shighesthonour,theOrder

oftheWhiteLion,in2014.

NicholasWintonpassedawayon1July2015,attheageof106.AstheChinese

sayinggoes,“Akind-heartedpersonlivesalonglife.”

升调(RiSingIntonatiOn)是我们在进行语言表达时,句子的最后一个实词的重读音节

上升的语调。这取决于我们说话时的语气,或试图用语调表达的情感或态度。升调常用于

1.一般疑问句提问时使用:表示等待回答者确认或者表示礼貌。
