一、英语短篇小说阅读的意义

对于课业繁重的中学生来说，英语长篇小说情节复杂，任务繁杂，难以把握。在英语课堂中阅读长篇小说摘要也不能起到让学生感受地道语言的作用。而英语诗歌格式多样，韵律深奥，内容抽象，让人望而却步。短篇小说就是叙述一个故事，作为一种文学形式，它在19世纪和20世纪初达到鼎盛时期。但作为一种叙述故事的方法，在《圣经》中就被大量使用。英文短篇小说更接近生活，情节较单纯，人物更清楚，文字相对浅显，小说的韵味相对容易体会。由于短篇小说相对篇幅较短，也易于教师在英语课堂进行指导阅读。

个人学习是一种完全依赖自身的学习方法。如果自己不仔细阅读，就意味着你将上交一份不尽如人意的答卷。因此，在英语阅读中，个人学习对自身的挑战是很大的。首先，就英语而言，对于我们每个人都是第二语言，我们在阅读过程中无法避免地遇到生词，通过单词的构成，我们在生活中所积累的常识与联系上下文的理解猜出其大致含义，这本身对我们就是一项挑战。其次，我们和欧美国家有着不同的文化环境与写作习惯，所以，往往我们在阅读英文小说之前需要了解小说的写作背景与动机，以便我们深入剖析文章主题，这对我们阅读能力及知识面范围的要求就比较高。因此，个人学习的英语阅读方法能充分锻炼个人的英语语言学习能力，对阅读内容的分析概括能力及对小说主题的深入理解的能力，从而有利于个人英语阅读能力的提高。

三、小组学习与个人学习各自的弱点与缺陷与适用对象

在小组学习中，组长针对老师布置的阅读任务，根据各组员的英语阅读能力与水平，分配给每个小组成员阅读任务，由大家共同完成，这是最理想的状态。但我们在平时的学习过程中，以小组为单位时，总会有些自制力差的同学把希望寄托在同组其他人身上，逃避阅读任务，这必然影响其英语阅读能力的提高。若长此以往，必将影响其英语阅读兴趣，甚至影响其对英语语言的学习兴趣。英语阅读能力是在不断练习的过程中逐步提高的，如果不坚持练习，反复钻研，很难真正提高自己的阅读水平。因此，小组学习适用于在阅读任务难度较大的情况下，学习上有上进心并且自制力强的学生在小组学习中可与大家分享自己的学习成果，并在小组成员间互相学习的过程中认识到自己与他人相比的存在的优越性或不足，进一步通过练习不断提高自己的阅读能力，完善自己的知识储备。
