icyrivers.ThepathtoDawsonwascoveredwiththirtyfeetofwetsnowthatcouldfallwithout
warming.Anavalanche(雪崩)onceclosedthepath,killing63people.Formanywhomadeitto
Dawson,however,therewardswereworththedifficulttrip.Ofthefirst20,000peoplewhodug
forgold,4,000gotrich.About100ofthesestayedrichmenfortherestoftheirlives.
Butnomatterhowrichtheywere,Dawsonwasnevercomfortable.Necessitieslikefoodand
woodwereveryexpensive.Butsoon,thegoldthatDawsondependedonhadallbeenfound.Thecity
wascrowdedwithdisappointedpeoplewithnointerestinsettlingdown,andwhentheyheardthere
werenewgolddiscoveriesinAlaska,theyleftDawsonCityasquicklyastheyhadcome.Today,

WangservesasheadoftheArchitectureDepartmentattheChinaAcademyofArt(CAA).His
officeislocatedattheXiangshancampus(校园)oftheuniversityinHangzhou,ZhejiangProvince.
Manybuildingsonthecampusarehisoriginalcreations.
ThestyleofthecampusisquitedifferentfromthatofmostChineseuniversities.Many
visitorswereamazedbythecomplexarchitecturalspaceandabundantbuildingtypes.The
curves(曲线)ofthebuildingsperfectlymatchtheriseandfallofhills,formingauniqueview.
Wangcollectedmorethan7millionabandonedbricksofdifferentages.Heaskedtheworkers
tousetraditionaltechniquestomakethebricksintowalls,roofsandcorridors.Thiscreation
