Teachingphilosophy
TheteachingisdesignedaccordingtotheViewonEnglishLearningActivities,whichisproposedinTheNationalEnglishCurriculumStandards(2017).Inordertodevelopstudents’Englishcorepetencies,threelevelsofactivitiesarecarefullydesigned,includinglearningandunderstanding,applyingandpracticingaswellastransferringandcreating.
Theclassislearnercentered,whichaimstodevelopstudents’cooperativelearningabilityandcriticalthinkingability.
Analysisofteachingmaterial
TheselectedteachingmaterialisareadingpassagecalledAChildofTwoCuisines.Andthisclassesfromthepartunderstandingideas.
What:ThethematiccontextisManandSociety,whichcoversthesubjectcontentofdiversefoodculturesandhealthyeatinghabits.Thetypeoftextisanarrative.Basedonthethemeof“food”,thistextintroducesthestoryofaChineseBritishcrossculturalfamily’sattitudestowardsfood.
How:Thetextisorientedtowardsoneclue,thatis,fivefoodsincludingSichuanhotpot,animalparts,fullEnglishbreakfast,Sundayroastandstinkytofu.
Why:Althoughthelanguageandstructureofthetextaresimpleandeasyforstudentstounderstand,thefocusofthistextisonitsprofoundculturalconnotations.Thevalueofthistextisthatstudentsenhancecrossculturalawarenessandunderstandthefoodculturefromacrossculturalperspective.
