Firstofall,Ithinkthewarm-upactivitywiththepictureswasahit.Itgotthekidsengagedrightfromthestart,anditwasagreatwaytoreviewsomevocabularyrelatedtohomes.Theywerereallyintoit,anditsetapositivetonefortherestoftheclass.

Now,let'stalkaboutthemainpartofthelesson.Iintroducedthe"-ing"spellingpatternandthepresentcontinuoustense,whicharequitetrickyforfourthgraders.Iusedalotofexamplesandshowedthemhowtoformgerundsandthepresentcontinuoustense.I'mhappytosaythatmostofthemgotit,butIdidnoticeafewstrugglingwiththepronunciation.

IthinkIdidagoodjobofbreakingdowntheconceptsintosmaller,moremanageableparts.Forinstance,Istartedwiththesimpleideaofagerundbeingaverbthatactslikeanoun,andthenIshowedthemhowtoadd"-ing"toverbstomakegerunds.Similarly,Iexplainedthepresentcontinuoustensestepbystep,usingclearandsimplelanguage.

OnethingI'mproudofishowIincorporateddifferentteachingstrategies.Iusedsongs,games,andreal-lifeexamplestomakethelearningexperiencemoreinteractiveandfun.Forexample,wesangasongaboutdifferentactivitiespeopledoathome,andithelpedthemrememberthe"-ing"endingsbetter.

Second,IthinkIcouldhaveprovidedmoreindividualizedattentiontothosewhowerestrugglingwiththepronunciation.Inoticedthatsomekidswerehesitatingwhentheypronouncedwordswith"-ing."Ishouldhavegiventhemmorepracticetimeandmaybeevenworkedwiththemone-on-oneduringthenextlesson.

Asforthestudents,theydidgreat!Theywereattentive,andtheyshowedalotofimprovementintheirunderstandingofthe"-ing"patternandthepresentcontinuoustense.Theywereabletousethesenewstructuresinsentences,whichisabigstepforward.Ialsosawthembecomingmoreconfidentintheirabilitytolearnnewthings.

Intermsofemotionalattitudes,Ithinktheclasswasenjoyableandengaging.Thestudentsseemedtobehavingfunwhilelearning,whichisalwaysagoodsign.Theywerealsoshowingalotofenthusiasm,especiallywhenwedidtherole-playactivity.Itwasheartwarmingtoseethemsoexcitedaboutusingtheirnewvocabularyinarealcontext.

Towrapitup,Ithinktoday'sclasswasasuccess.Thekidslearnedalot,andIlearnedalottoo.I'lltakethesereflectionsandmakesomeadjustmentsfornexttime.I'llworkoncreatingamoresupportiveenvironmentforshystudentsandprovidemoretargetedassistanceforthosewhoneedit.Andwhoknows,maybewe'llevenhavealittlemorefunwithsomenewactivitiesandgames!
