AftertheoutbreakoftheAmericanWarofIndependence,alargenumberofpro-BritishelementsfromNorthAmericapouredintoCanada.

TheirliteraryactivitiesbecamethebeginningofCanadianEnglishliterature.CanadianEnglishliteraturecanbedividedintothreeperiods:thecolonialperiod(1749-1867),whichwastheformationstageofCanadianEnglishliterature,from1867tothe1920s,andthe20thcentury.Thecolonialperiod(1749-1867)wasthestageoftheformationofCanadianEnglishliterature.

TheEnglishworksatthistimearemainlytravelnotes,diariesandexperienceswrittenbybusinessmen,explorers,priestsandgarrisontroops,describingthenaturalsceneryofeasternandnortheasternCanada,thegarrisonlifeoftheBritisharmyandthesituationofsomeIndiantribes,andsoon.TheseworksarepublishedinBritishpublications.From1867to1920s.

Aftermorethanacenturyofdevelopment,CanadianEnglishliteraturehasbeguntotakeshape.

AftertheBritishParliamentpassedtheBritishNorthAmericaActin1867,CanadabecameadominionoftheCommonwealth,anditsliteratureenteredanewstage.

AfterWorldWarI(1920~),Canadagaineddiplomaticindependencein1926,anditsnationalconsciousnessroseagain,sowriterswererequiredtocreateliteraryandartisticworkscommensuratewithnationalstrength.

CanadianLiterati,CanadianForumandothermagazinesactivelysupporttheirownworks,promotethemovementofsmalltheaters,andcarryoutthestudyofCanadianliterature.

TheWritersAssociationwasestablishedintheearly1920s.

Allthesehavepromotedthedevelopmentofliterarycreation,aswellastheprosperityofdrama,filmandsoon.
