assessmentsofstorytellingskills,weaskedparticipantsquestionstogetasenseofhowmeaningfulthey
foundlifeandwhethertheyapproacheddecisionswitha"why"mindsetratherthana"how"mindset.
Resultsconsistentlylinkedstorytellingskillstostrongerlifemeaningandgoalclarity.Personality
alsomattered:peopleopentonewexperiencescollectedmoreinterestinglifestories,whileshypeople
usedstorytellingtobalanceouttheirlimitedsocialinteraction.
Astrong"why"mindsetconnectswithreducedstressandextendedlife.Storytellingalsobuilds
socialconnections.Byhelpingpeopleexpresstheirpurposeandbuildrelationships,storiesmay
indirectlystrengthenbothmentalandphysicalhealth.
