First,someratswereplacedintothevirtualrealityenvironmentandtheywererewardedwhentheytraveled

throughthisenvironmenttowardstheirgoalsbyrunningonatreadmill(anexercisemachine).Next,researchers

disconnectedthetreadmillsothattheratscouldstillseethevirtualrealityenvironment,buttheirrunninghadno

impact.Byreproducingthebrainactivitythey’dshownduringtheprevioussessions,theratscouldtraveltoreward

locationstakingadvantageoftheirownthoughts.

“Althoughit’sstillunclearwhattheratisexperiencingwhileit’stravelingorhowsimilaritistowhathappens
