Goodmorning,everyone.It’strulyanhonortostandbeforeyoutoday,andIwanttoexpressmydeepestgratitudeforthisopportunitytospeakwithallofyou.Yourpresenceheremeanssomuch,andI’mgenuinelyhumbledbythechancetosharemythoughtsandideaswithsuchadedicatedandthoughtfulaudience.

Today,we’regatheredheretotalkaboutsomethingthattoucheseveryoneofus—howwecanworktogethertomakeourcommunitystronger,moreinclusive,andmorevibrant.Inaworldthatoftenfeelsdivided,thepowerofcollaborationandunityisnotjustadream;it’sanecessity.We’reheretoexplorehowsmallactionscanleadtobigchanges,howlisteningtooneanothercanbridgegaps,andhowworkingasateamcancreateafuturewecanallbeproudof.

Thinkaboutit:Whatdoesathrivingcommunitylookliketoyou?Isitcleanstreets,safeneighborhoods,ormaybemoreopportunitiesforeveryone?Thesearen’tjustabstractideas—they’rethegoalswecanachievewhenwecometogetherwithasharedvision.Andthat’sexactlywhatIwanttodiscusswithyoutoday.Let’sthinkabouthowwecanturntheseaspirationsintorealities,onestepatatime.

二.背景信息

Imaginewalkingdownyourstreetandseeingeverythingyouneedrightthere—shopsthatsupportlocalbusinesses,parkswherechildrencanplaysafely,andneighborswhoknowyournameandcheckinonyou.Thisisn’tjustaniceidea;it’sthefoundationofastrongcommunity.Buthowdoesaplacestartonitsjourneytowardthiskindofvibrancy?Andwhathappenswhenitfaceschallengesalongtheway?That’sthestoryweneedtounderstandtoday.

Foryears,ourcommunityhasbeenaplacewherepeoplecometogether,sharestories,andbuildlives.We’veseenincrediblegrowth—newhomes,thrivingbusinesses,andeventsthatbringeveryonetogether.Yet,likeanyplacethat’sgrowing,we’vealsofacedhurdles.Someneighborhoodshavefeltleftbehind,certaingroupshaven’thadavoiceindecisionsthataffectthem,andsometimes,theenergythatonceunitedushasfadedintothedailygrind.Thesearen’tsmallproblems;they’retheonesthatshapeourcollectivefuture.

Whyshouldwecare?Becauseacommunityismorethanjustbuildingsandroads—it’smadeupofus.It’stheteacherswhoinspirestudents,thevolunteerswhohelpthelessfortunate,theartistswhofillourstreetswithlife,andthefamilieswhorootthemselvesinoneplace.Whenthingsgowrong,it’soursharedresponsibilitytofixthem.Whenopportunitiesarise,it’sourdutytoseizethem.Ignoringtheissueswon’tmakethemdisappear.Infact,itoftenmakesthemworse.

Take,forexample,theissueofinequality.Someofushavelivedhereforgenerations,whileothersjustmovedin.Butwhetheryou’vebeenhereadayoralifetime,yourwell-beingmattersequally.Yet,sometimesaccesstogoodschools,healthcare,orjobsisn’tfairforeveryone.Thisisn’taboutpointingfingers—it’saboutrecognizingthatacommunityonlythriveswheneveryonehasachancetosucceed.Thesamegoesforenvironmentalconcerns.Aparkthat’scleanandwell-maintainedbringsjoytoeveryonewhovisitsit.Butifit’slitteredorneglected,itaffectsnotjustthenature,butthepeoplewholivenearbytoo.Theseissuesareinterconnected,andthat’swhytheydeserveourfullattention.

Thinkaboutitthisway:Asingletreedoesn’tmakeaforest,butmillionsoftreesdo.Similarly,oneperson’seffortisn’tenoughtochangeacommunity—butmanypeopleworkingtogethercancreatesomethingextraordinary.Thisiswhydiscussingthesetopicsmatters.It’snotjustaboutsolvingproblems;it’saboutshapingthekindofplacewewanttolivein.Dowewantacommunitywheresomepeoplestrugglewhileothersprosper?Ordowewantonewhereeveryonehasafairshot,whereopportunitiesareplentiful,andwhereourdifferencesareseenasstrengthsratherthandivisions?Theanswerisn’tobvious,andthat’swhyweneedtotalkaboutit.

Thegoodnewsis,we’renotstartingfromscratch.Foryears,therehavebeenindividualsandgroupswho’veworkedtirelesslytoimproveourcommunity.They’veorganizedcleanups,advocatedforbetterservices,andbroughtpeopletogetheracrossdivides.Theireffortsshowuswhat’spossiblewhenwecareenoughtoact.Butthere’salwaysmoretodo.That’swhyI’mheretoday—nottogivealltheanswers,buttoaskallofyoutojoinmeinbuildingabetterfuture.Becauseattheendoftheday,ourcommunityisn’tjustaplacewepassthrough;it’swhereweplantourroots,whereweraiseourfamilies,andwhereweleaveourmarkontheworld.Andthatmakeseverythingwe’rediscussingtodayincrediblyimportant.

三.主体部分

Today,we’reheretotalkabouthowwecanbuildastronger,moreunitedcommunity—startingrighthere,rightnow.Thisisn’tjustaboutfixingproblems;it’saboutcreatingafuturewhereeveryonefeelsvalued,heard,andconnected.Todothat,weneedtotacklethreekeyareas:fosteringcollaboration,supportinglocalgrowth,andnurturingacultureofinclusivity.Eachofthesestepsiscrucial,andtogether,theycantransformourcommunityintosomethingtrulyspecial.Let’sdiveintoeachone.

**1.FosteringCollaboration:ThePowerofWorkingTogether**

Imagineaneighborhoodwhereneighborshelpeachother,businessessupportoneanother,andlocalorganizationsworkhand-in-handtosolveproblems.That’sthekindofcollaborationweneedtofoster.Toooften,weseedivisions—betweenyoungandold,betweendifferentethnicgroups,orbetweenthosewholiveinonepartoftownversusanother.Butthetruthis,noneofuscansolvebigchallengesalone.Weneedtobreakdownthesebarriersandbuildbridgesinstead.

Thinkaboutwhathappenedafewyearsagowhenourlocalhighschoolneedednewsportsequipment.Theschoolcouldn’taffordit,sotheprincipalaskedthecommunityforhelp.Atfirst,notmanypeopleresponded.Butthen,agroupoflocalbusinessesheardaboutitanddecidedtopooltheirresources.Theyraisedenoughmoneynotjustfortheequipment,butforanewplaygroundtoo.Kidswhousedtheequipmentsaiditmadethemfeelmoreconfidentandmotivated.Theirparentsnoticedadifferenceintheirattitudesandperformanceatschool.Thisisn’tjustastoryaboutnewtoys;it’sastoryaboutpeoplecomingtogetherforacommongoal.

Now,let’slookatwhatthismeansforus.Whenwecollaborate,wecanachievesomuchmore.Asinglepersonmightdonatetoacharity,butagroupofpeopleworkingtogethercanstartavolunteerprogramthathelpstheentirecommunity.Abusinessmighthireafewpeople,butwhenbusinessesworktogether,theycancreatejobsforhundreds.Thekeyistostartsmallandbuildfromthere.Maybeit’sorganizinganeighborhoodcleanup,ormaybeit’sformingalocalbusinessnetworktoshareideasandresources.Whateveritis,themoreweworktogether,thestrongerourcommunitybecomes.

**2.SupportingLocalGrowth:KeepingOurCommunityThriving**

Athrivingcommunityneedsstronglocalbusinesses,vibrantartsscene,andplentyofopportunitiesforeveryone.Buthowdowemakethathappen?Onewayistosupportlocalentrepreneurs.Smallbusinessesarethelifebloodofanycommunity.Theycreatejobs,theykeepmoneycirculatinglocally,andtheygiveourtownauniquecharacterthatchainstoresjustcan’treplicate.

Take,forexample,thecoffeeshopthatopenedlastyear.Theowner,alocalresident,sawaneedforaplacewherepeoplecouldrelaxandmeetfriends.Shetookarisk,openedhershop,andnowit’soneofthemostpopularspotsintown.Sheemploysseveralpeople,andhercustomersloveherbecausesheknowstheirnamesandrememberstheirorders.Ifwehadjustletabigchaincoffeeshopmovein,wewouldn’thavethatsameconnection.Wewouldn’thavealocalbusinessownerwhocaresaboutourcommunity.

Butsupportinglocalgrowthisn’tjustaboutbusinesses.It’salsoaboutinvestinginourschools,parks,andpublicspaces.Whenwehavegoodschools,weattractfamilieswhowanttoraisetheirkidshere.Whenwehavecleanparks,weencouragepeopletogetoutsideandenjoynature.Thesethingsdon’thappenontheirown—wehavetofightforthem.That’swhyit’ssoimportanttoshowupattownhallmeetings,tovote,andtospeakupforthechangeswewanttosee.

Thinkaboutwhatwouldhappenifeveryfamilyinourcommunityspentjust$10moreatlocalbusinesseseachmonth.Thatmightnotsoundlikemuch,butmultiplyitbythousandsoffamilies,anditaddsuptorealsupportforourlocaleconomy.It’sasimpleidea,butithasabigimpact.Andwhenlocalbusinessesthrive,everyonebenefits—morejobs,moretaxrevenue,andastrongersenseofcommunity.

**3.NurturingInclusivity:ACommunityforEveryone**

Atrulygreatcommunityisonewhereeveryonefeelsliketheybelong.Thatmeanslisteningtothevoicesofmarginalizedgroups,ensuringaccesstoservicesforall,andcelebratingourdiversity.Toooften,certaingroups—likeimmigrants,seniors,orpeoplewithdisabilities—don’tgetthesupporttheyneed.Wehavetochangethat.

Let’stalkabouttheimmigrantcommunityinourtown.Manyofthemcamehereseekingabetterlife,buttheyoftenfacechallengesfindingjobs,learningthelanguage,oraccessinghealthcare.Afewyearsago,agroupofvolunteersstartedaprogramtohelpnewimmigrantswiththeseissues.Theyofferedfreelanguageclasses,jobtraining,andevenhelpedpeoplenavigatethelegalsystem.Theresult?Morepeopleareemployed,morefamiliesareself-sufficient,andourcommunityisricherfortheircontributions.

Butinclusivityisn’tjustaboutprovidingservices—it’salsoaboutchanginghowwethink.Itmeanschallengingstereotypes,listeningtoothers,andmakingspacefordifferentperspectives.Forexample,imagineaneighborhoodwherethelocalgovernmentregularlyasksforinputfromyoungpeople.Insteadofjustassumingwhattheywant,theyactuallylistentotheirideasandactonthem.Thatcreatesasenseofownershipandrespect,anditmakesyoungpeoplefeellikethey’repartofthecommunity.

Thinkabouthowmuchstrongerourcommunitywouldbeifwetreatedeveryonewithdignityandrespect.Ifwelookedbeyondsomeone’sbackgroundandsawtheirpotentialinstead.Ifwecelebratedourdifferencesinsteadofhidingthem.Thesearen’tjustloftyideas—they’rethebuildingblocksofatrulyinclusivecommunity.

**BringingItAllTogether**

Sofar,we’vetalkedaboutthreekeythings:collaboration,supportinglocalgrowth,andnurturinginclusivity.Butthemostimportantpartishowthesethingsconnect.Whenwecollaborate,wecansupportlocalbusinessesmoreeffectively.Whenwesupportlocalgrowth,wecreatemoreopportunitiesforeveryone.Andwhenwenurtureinclusivity,wemakesurethatnooneisleftbehind.

It’snotgoingtobeeasy.Changetakestime,andittakeseffort.Buthistoryshowsusthatwhencommunitiescometogetherwithasharedvision,theycanachieveamazingthings.Justthinkaboutthecivilrightsmovement,theenvironmentalmovement,orthefightforwomen’ssuffrage.Noneofthesemovementssucceededbecauseonepersondideverything—theysucceededbecausethousandsofpeopleworkedtogether,evenwhenitwashard.

That’swhatweneedtodohere.Weneedtostandupforwhatwebelievein,evenwhenit’schallenging.Weneedtosupporteachother,tolistentooneanother,andtoworktogetherforabetterfuture.Becauseattheendoftheday,ourcommunityisn’tjustaplacewelive—it’sareflectionofwhoweare.Andifwewanttobuildsomethinggreat,wehavetostartwithourselves.

四.解决方案/建议

We’vetalkedaboutthevision——acommunitywherecollaborationthrives,localgrowthisnurtured,andinclusivityisaguidingprinciple.Now,thequestionis:howdowegetthere?Howdoweturntheseidealsintoreality?Thegoodnewsis,thesolutionsaren’tcomplicatedoroutofreach.Theystartwithsmallstepsthateachofuscantake,andtheygrowbiggerwhenweworktogether.Today,Iwanttooutlinethreeconcreteactionswecanallcommitto,andIchallengeeachofyoutojoinmeinmakingthemhappen.

**1.BuildBridgesThroughDialogueandListening**

Oneofthebiggestobstaclestoastrongcommunityisthelackofcommunicationbetweendifferentgroups.We’veseenittimeandtimeagain:neighborswhodon’tknoweachother,businessesthatdon’tsupportlocalinitiatives,orcommunitymemberswhofeelexcludedfromimportantdecisions.Thesolution?Weneedtostarttalkingtooneanother.

Thinkaboutorganizinganeighborhoodblockparty.It’sasimpleidea,butitcanmakeahugedifference.Whenpeoplegatherinarelaxedsetting,theystarttoseeeachotherasindividualsratherthanasmembersofacertaingroup.Theysharestories,laughtogether,andmaybeevendiscoverthattheyhavealotincommon.Thisishowrelationshipsform,andthisishowtrustbuilds.

Butitdoesn’tstopthere.Wealsoneedtolisten—reallylisten—topeoplewhoaredifferentfromus.Toooften,wejumptoconclusionsbasedonstereotypesorassumptions.Butifwetakethetimetolisten,wemightlearnsomethingnew.Wemightunderstandsomeone’sperspectivebetter.Andthat’sthefirststeptowardbridgingdivides.

Here’saspecificidea:let’screateaneighborhoodcouncilthatincludesrepresentativesfromeverypartofourcommunity.Youngpeople,seniors,businessowners,parents,immigrants—everyoneshouldhaveavoice.Thiscouncilcanmeetregularlytodiscussissues,brainstormsolutions,andmakesurethatnooneisleftoutoftheconversation.It’snotjustaboutsolvingproblems;it’saboutmakingsurethateveryonefeelsliketheybelong.

**2.EmpowerLocalBusinessesandCreateOpportunities**

Acommunitythriveswhenlocalbusinessesarestrong.Theycreatejobs,theykeepmoneycirculatinglocally,andtheygiveourtownauniquecharacter.Buthowdowemakesuretheyhavethesupporttheyneed?Theanswerissimple:wetreatthemliketheheroestheyare.

Imaginewhatwouldhappenifeveryfamilyinourcommunitycommittedtospendingjust10%oftheirdiscretionaryincomeatlocalbusinesses.Thatmightnotsoundlikemuch,butmultiplyitbythousandsofhouseholds,anditaddsuptorealsupport.Localbusinesseswouldseemorecustomers,they’dbeabletohiremorepeople,andthey’dhavetheresourcestoinvestinourcommunity.

Butit’snotjustaboutspendingmoney.Wealsoneedtogetinvolved.Maybeyoucouldvolunteertohelpalocalbusinesswithaproject.Ormaybeyoucouldwriteapositivereviewonlineortellyourfriendsaboutagreatshopyouvisited.Thesesmallactionscanmakeabigdifference.

**3.championInclusivityandEnsureEveryoneHasaVoice**

Atrulygreatcommunityisonewhereeveryonefeelsliketheybelong.Thatmeansmakingsurethatmarginalizedgroups—likeimmigrants,seniors,peoplewithdisabilities,andlow-incomefamilies—havethesupporttheyneedtothrive.Itmeanslisteningtotheirconcernsandactingonthem.

Let’sstartwithsomethingsimple:let’smakeourpublicspacesmoreaccessible.Thatcouldmeanaddingrampstobuildings,providingsignlanguageinterpretersatevents,ormakingsurethatourparksaredesignedforpeopleofallabilities.Thesesmallchangescanmakeabigdifferenceinsomeone’slife.

Here’sanotheridea:let’screateamentorshipprogramthatconnectsyoungpeoplewithlocalbusinessownersorcommunityleaders.Thegoalistogiveyoungpeopletheguidanceandsupporttheyneedtosucceed.Atthesametime,it’sachanceforexperiencedprofessionalstogivebacktothecommunityandsharetheirknowledge.

Butperhapsthemostimportantthingwecandoistochallengestereotypesandbiaswhenweseethem.Toooften,we’recomplacentaboutprejudice,evenwhenwe’renotdirectlyaffectedbyit.Butifwewanttobuildaninclusivecommunity,wehavetospeakupagainstdiscriminationinallitsforms.Wehavetostandupforwhat’sright,evenwhenit’sdifficult.

**TakingtheFirstStep**

So,whatcaneachofusdo?Theanswerissimple:startsmall.Maybeyou’llhostablockparty,ormaybeyou’llstartsupportinglocalbusinesses.Maybeyou’llvolunteertohelpwithacommunityproject,ormaybeyou’lljusttakethetimetotalktoyourneighborsandlistentotheirstories.Whateveritis,theimportantthingistotakeaction.

Andthen,doitagain.Andagain.Becausechangedoesn’thappenovernight.Ithappenswhenweconsistentlymakesmallimprovements,whenwegraduallybuildtrust,andwhenwenevergiveuphope.That’showmovementsaremade.That’showcommunitiesaretransformed.

Thinkaboutthecivilrightsmovement.Itwasn’tjustabouttheleaderswhogavespeeches—itwasaboutthethousandsofordinarypeoplewhoparticipatedinsit-ins,marches,andboycotts.Itwasaboutthepeoplewhostoodupforwhatwasright,evenwhenitwasdangerous.Andbecausetheydidn’tgiveup,theychangedtheworld.

That’swhatweneedtodohere.Weneedtostandupforourcommunity.Weneedtoworktogether.Weneedtobelieveinthepowerofordinarypeopletomakeextraordinarychanges.Becauseattheendoftheday,ourcommunityiswhatwemakeofit.Andifwewanttobuildsomethinggreat,wehavetostartnow.
