4.ThenewsthatKinohasfoundanimmensepearltravelsfastthroughLaPazThe

doctorwhorefusedtotreatCoyotitodecidestovisitKino.Kinosneighborsbegintofeel

bittertowardhimforhisgoodfortune,butneitherKinonorJuanarealizethisfeeling

suggestgivingitasapresenttothePope,buyingMassesforthesoulsofhisfamily,and

distributingitamongthepoorofLaPaz.Kinogoestosellhispearl,accompaniedbyhis

neighbors,butthepearldealeronlyoffersathousandpesoswhenKinobelievesthathe

deservesfiftythousand.Althoughotherdealersinspectthepearlandgivesimilarprices,

Kinorefusestheirofferanddecidestogotothecapitaltosellitthere.Thatnight,Kino

outsidesetafire.KinoandJuanastaywithJuanTomasandhiswife,ApoIonia

death,forhesoonrealizesthatCoyotitoisdeadfromthatfirstshot.JuanaandKino

returntoLaPaz.Kinocarriesariflestolenfromtheoneofthetrackershekilled,while

JuanacarriesthedeadCoyotito.Thetwoapproachthegulf,andKino,whonowsees

theimageofCoyotitowithhisheadblownoffinthepearl,throwsitintotheocean.

9.ThingsILearnedFromRe-ReadingThePearlTweetIwasareadermilesbeforeI

wasawriter.FromthetimeIlearnedtoread,Iwantedtobemoreinvolvedinbooks.

ThatswhyIbecameawriter.Ialwayslistentowritersspeakaboutthemethodacertain

authorusedorhowtheplotdevelopedinabookorthestyleoftheauthor.Theyread

booksaswriters.Ifindthatsodifficulttodo.Beingalongtimestorylover,Igetlostin
