【典例】【2021·新高考I卷A篇】Romecanbepriceyfortravelers,whichiswhymanychoosetostayinahostel(旅社).ThehostelsinRomeofferabedinadormroomforaround$25anight,andforthat,you’lloftengettostayinacentrallocation(位置)withsecurityandcomfort.YellowHostelIfIhadtomakejustonerecommendationforwheretostayinRome,itwouldbeYellowHostel.It’soneofthebest-ratedhostelsinthecity,andforgoodreason.It’saffordable,andit’sgotafunatmospherewithoutbeingtoonoisy.Asanaddedbonus,it’sclosetothemaintrainstation.HostelAlessandroPalaceIfyoulovesocialhostels,thisisthebesthostelforyouinRome.HostelAlessandroPalaceisfun.Staffmembersholdplentyofbareventsforguestslikefreeshots,barcrawlsandkaraoke.There’salsoanareaontherooftopforhangingoutwithothertravelersduringthesummer.YouthStationHostelIfyou’relookingforcleanlinessandamodernhostel,looknofurtherthanYouthStation.Itoffersbeautifulfurnishingsandbeds.Thereareplentyofotherbenefits,too;itdoesn’tchargecitytax;ithasbothairconditioningandaheaterfortherooms;italsohasfreeWi-Fiineveryroom.HotelandHostelDesArtistesHotelandHostelDesArtistesislocatedjusta10-minutewalkfromthecentralcitystationandit’sclosetoallofthecity’smainattractions.Thestaffisfriendlyandhelpful,providingyouwithamapofthecitywhenyouarrive,andofferingadviceifyourequiresome. 21.Whatisprobablythemajorconcernoftravelerswhochoosetostayinahostel?A.Comfort. B.Security. C.Price. 22.Whichhotelbestsuitspeoplewhoenjoyanactivesociallife?A.YellowHostel. B.HostelAlessandroPalace.C.YouthStationHostel. D.HotelandHostelDesArtistes.【答案】B【解析】细节理解题。 B。23.WhatisthedisadvantageofHotelandHostelDesArtistes?A.Itgetsnoisyatnight. B.Itsstaffistootalkative.C.ItchargesforWi-Fi. ThatwillpowerborefruitwhenJennifergraduatedfromUniversityofWisconsin-EauClaireandbecamethefirstinherlargefamilytoearnabachelor’sdegree.Mauer,ofEdgar,Wisconsin,grewuponafarminafamilyof10children.Herdadworkedatajobawayfromthefarm,andhermotherranthefarmwiththekids.Afterhighschool,Jenniferattendedalocaltechnicalcollege,workingtopayhertuition(学费),becausetherewasnoextramoneysetasideforacollegeeducation.Aftergraduation,sheworkedtohelphersistersandbrotherspayfortheirschooling.Jennifernowismarriedandhasthreechildrenofherown.Shedecidedtogobacktocollegetoadvancehercareerandtobeabletobettersupportherfamilywhiledoingsomethingsheloves:nursing.ShechosetheUW-EauClaireprogramatMinistrySaintJoseph’sHospitalinMarshfieldbecauseshewasabletopursueherfour-yeardegreeclosetohome.Shecoulddrivetoclassandbehomeintheeveningtohelpwithherkids.Jeniferreceivedgreatsupportfromherfamilyassheworkedtoearnherdegree:Herhusbandworkedtwojobstocoverthebills,andher68-year-oldmotherhelpedtakecareofthechildrenattimes.Throughitall,sheremainedingoodacademicstandingandgraduatedwithhonors.Jennifersacrificed(牺牲)toachievehergoal,givingupmanynightswithherkidsandmissingimportanteventstostudy.’’Somenightsmyheartwasbreakingtohavetopickbetweenmykidsandstudyingforexamsorpapers,’’shesays.However,herchildrenhavelearnedanimportantlessonwitnessingtheirmotherearnherdegree. 4.WhatdidJenniferdoafterhighschool?A.Shehelpedherdadwithhiswork. B.Sheranthefamilyfarmonherown.C.Shesupportedherselfthroughcollege. D.Shetaughthersistersandbrothersathome.【答案】C【解析】细节理解题。 C.Shesupportedherselfthroughcollege.(她自食其力读完了大学)符合以上说法,故选C项。5.WhydidJenniferchoosetheprogramatMinistrySaintJoseph’sHospitalinMarshfield?A.Totakecareofherkidseasily. B.Tolearnfromthebestnurses.C.Tosavemoneyforherparents. A.Totakecareofherkidseasily.(为了方便照顾她的孩子)符合以上说法,故选A项。6.WhatdidJennifersacrificetoachievehergoal?A.Herhealth. B.Hertimewithfamily.C.Herreputation. D.Herchanceofpromotion.【答案】B【解析】细节理解题。 B.Hertimewithfamily.(她与家人的时光)符合以上说法,故选B项。7.WhatcanwelearnfromJenifer’sstory?A.Timeismoney. B.Lovebreaksdownbarriers.C.Hardworkpaysoff. D.Educationisthekeytosuccess.【答案】C【解析】推理判断题。 C.Hardworkpaysoff.(努力会得到回报)符合以上说法,故选C项。 InhisspareonstagebesidepianistMariaRaspopova—notasamusicianbutasherpageturner.“I’mnotatrainedmusician,butI’velearnttoreadmusicsoIcanhelpMariainherperformance.”MrTittertonischairmanoftheOmegaEnsemblebuthasbeenthegroup’sofficialpageturnerforthepastfouryears.Hisjobistositbesidethepianistandturnthepagesofthescoresothemusiciandoesn’thavetobreaktheflowofsoundbydoingitthemselves.Hesaidhebecamejustasnervousasthoseplayinginstrumentsonstage.“Alotofskillsareneededforthejob.Youhavetomakesureyoudon’tturntwopagesatonceandmakesureyoufindtherepeatsinthemusicwhenyouhavetogobacktotherightspot.”MrTittertonexplained.Beingapageturnerrequiresplentyofpractice.Somepiecesofmusiccangofor40minutesandrequireupto50pageturns,includingbackturnsforrepeatpassages.Silentonstagecommunicationiskey,andeachpianisthastheirownstyleof“nodding”toindicateapageturnwhichtheyneedtopractisewiththeirpageturner.Butlikeallperformances,therearemomentswhenthingsgowrong.“Iwasturningthepagetogetreadyforthenextpage,butthedraftwindfromtheturncausedthesparepagestofalloffthestand,”MrTittertonsaid,“LuckilyIwasabletocatchthemandputthemback.”Mostpageturnersarepianostudentsorup-and-comingconcertpianists,althoughMsRaspopovahasonceaskedherhusbandtohelpheroutonstage.“Myhusbandistheworstpageturner,”shelaughed.“He’sinterestedinthemusic,feelingeverynote,andIhavetosay:’Turn,turn!’“RobertisthebestpageturnerI’vehadinmyentirelife.”【语篇导读】这是一篇以叙事为主的记叙文。 24.WhatshouldTittertonbeabletodotobeapageturner?A.Readmusic. B.Playthepiano. C.Singsongs. D.Fixtheinstruments.【答案】A【解析】细节理解题。 25.WhichofthefollowingbestdescribesTitterton’sjobonstage?A.Boring. B.Well-paid. C.Demanding. D.Dangerous.【答案】C【解析】推理判断题。 26.WhatdoesTittertonneedtopractise?A.Countingthepages. B.Recognizingthe“nodding”.C.Catchingfallingobjects. D.Performinginhisownstyle.【答案】B【解析】细节理解题。 27.WhyisMsRaspopova’shusband“theworsepageturner”?A.Hehasverypooreyesight. B.Heignorestheaudience.C.Hehasnointerestinmusic. Thesesmall,sealedpackagescontainingrandomcollectiblefigureshavecreatedaglobalcraze,particularlyamongteenagersandyoungadults.TheBlindBoxPhenomenonStandardblindboxesarepricedat¥59—69($8—10)inChina,whileinternationalmarketsseehigherprices-upto$15intheUSand£12intheUK.Theexcitementcomesfromnotknowingwhichofthe12possiblefiguresyou’llget,withrare“hidden”versionsappearingonlyonceinevery144boxes.Thissystemhasprovenincrediblysuccessful,withPopMart’s2024revenuereaching¥13billion($1.8billion).GlobalExpansionChallengesAsPopMartexpandedtoover30countries,problemsemerged.InLondon,alimited-editionLabubureleasecausedsuchcrowdingthatpolicewerecalled.Meanwhile,fakeversionsofpopularfiguresfloodedmarketsinSoutheastAsia,sellingforhalfthepricebutwithpoorqualityMembershipBenefitsTomaintaincustomerloyalty,PopMartoffers:*1membershippointper¥1spent*EarlyaccesstonewreleasesforGoldmembers(¥5,000+annualspending)*Increasedchances(from1/144to1/72)offindinghiddenfigureswhenbuyingfullsets21.Whatmakesblindboxesparticularlyattractiveforbuyers?A.Theirlowcost. D.Lovewhatyoudoanddowhatyoulove.【答案】24.B25.C26.C27.D【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。 Itspurposemayhavebeentosolveacrossword.Acrosswordiscomplete—andgivesonejoy—withonlysomanywords,andonlywheneachwordrestsonelementsfromtheothers.Couldn’tmywordsholdaduality(双重性)thatcompletesmypurposetoo? Unlikeme,theyfoundthebestplacestopublishtheirworkandthebesteditorstoworkwith.(“Youwerepaidpeanuts!” Itspurposemayhavebeentosolveacrossword.Acrosswordiscomplete—andgivesonejoy—withonlysomanywords,andonlywheneachwordrestsonelementsfromtheothers.Couldn’tmywordsholdaduality(双重性)thatcompletesmypurposetoo?Andso,nowItakeupassignments,somethatpaywell,somethatdon’t,buttogether,andmostimportantly,theyfillmewithjoy. Havingjustgraduatedwithadegreeinastronomy,shearrivedwithaheartfullofpassionfortheuniverseandafiercedesiretoservehernewborncountry.Thedirector,recognizinghertalent,assignedhertoacriticalbutordinarytask:thetiringworkofcalculatingandcorrectingthenation’stimeservice.Thisfield,knownasworldtimedetermination,wasfundamentalyetextremelyboring.Itrequiredendlessobservationsofstarpositionsandcomplexmanual(手动的)calculations.Manyofherpeerssoughtmoretheoreticallyfascinatingareasofresearch,viewingYe’sassignmentasacareerdeadend.Onecolleagueevenremarkedprivately,“It’sapityforsomeonesobrighttobestuckinsucharoutinejob.”However,YeShuhuasawbeyondtheroutine.Sheunderstoodthataprecise,independenttimesystemwastheinvisiblebackboneofamodernnation,essentialforeverythingfrombroadcastingtonationaldefense.Relyingonforeigntimesignals,sheknew,wasaninsecuresolutionforacountrydeterminedtostandonitsownfeet.Leadingateamcomposedlargelyofotherdedicatedyoungwomen,Yestartedthissignificantproject.Nightafternight,theycarefullytrackedcelestialmovements(天体运动).Dayswerespentbentovercalculatingmachines,checkingandre-checkingmountainsofdata.Progresswasslowandtheworkwashardandtiring.Throughyearsofsuchcontinuouseffort,herteam’sperseverancepaidoff.By1965,the“BeijingTime”systemtheydevelopedachievedinternationalaccuracy.Thesamecolleaguewhooncepitiedherlateradmitted,“Shuhua’svisionandpersistenceweretrulyawe-inspiring.Shesawanationaltreasurewhereweonlysawdust.”Forthis,YeShuhuawasrightlyhonoredasthe“MotherofBeijingTime.”Reflectingonhercareer,amodernhistoriancommented,“YeShuhua’sgreatnessliesnotinasingledramaticdiscovery,butinherlifelongdedication.Sheprovidedthesilent,steadyrhythmuponwhichmodernChinacouldmarchforward.”Herstoryteachesusthattrueimpactoftencomesfromcommittingone’sintelligencetothefoundationalneedsofone’snation.24.WhydidYeShuhuaconsiderh
