Inexperiments,theteamfoundthatageneinricecalledWRINKLEDlahasdistinctrolesin
theshootandroot.Intheshoot,itswitchesonNGR5,akeygenethatpromotesbranching.Inthe
roots,WRINKLEDlasupportsnitrogenuptake,butalsopreventstheformationofaprotein
complexthatwouldotherwiselimitrootgrowth.Interestingly,WRINKLEDladoesnotprevent
thisproteincomplexintheshoot,showingthatitsrolesaretissue-specific.
