Inthestudy,boilinghardwatercontaining300milligramsofcalciumcarbonateledtoanalmost90percentdropin

microplastics.Butinsampleswithlessthan6()milligramsofcalciumcarbonate,boilingreducedthelevelof

microplasticsbyjust25percent.Additionally,theresearchdidn'tincludealltypesofplastics.Theteamfocused

onlyonthreecommontypes—polystyrene,polyethyleneandpolypropylene—andtheydidn'tstudyother

chemicalspreviouslyfoundinwatersuchasvinylchloride.

Still,thefindingsshowapotentialpathforwardfbrreducingmicroplasticexposure—ataskthat'sbecoming

increasinglydifficult.Evenbottledwater,scientistsfoundearlierthisyear,contains10to1,000timesmore

microplasticsthanoriginallythought.
