participantsfocusedonadimgraysquarepositionedatthecenterofacomputerscreen.Atthe

sametime,coloreddotsappearedasdistractions.

TheEEGdatarevealedrepeatingpatternsinbrainactivitythatpredictedwhenattention

wasmorelikelytomovetowardadistractor.Thesecyclesoccurredroughlyseventotentimes

persecond.Theyalsolinedupwithalternating(交替的)periodsinwhichparticipantswere

betterorworseatnoticingthecentraltarget.Whennoticingperformancedropped,

participantsweremoreeasilydistracted.
