According

to

a

new

study,

running

50

minutes

a

week,

at

a

pace

between

a

10-and7.5-minute

mile,

helped

lower

the

risk

of

death

from

cancer,

cardiovascular

disease

and

othercauses.

Working

out

more

than

that

didn’t

mean

more

health

benefits

(益处),

say

theresearchers,

based

on

a

review

of

a

number

of

studies.Because

running

is

a

popular

form

of

physical

activity,

studycoauthor

Zeljko

Pedisicand

his

workmates

chose

to

take

a

bird's

eye

view

of

what

past

studies

of

running

and

the

riskof

death

had

concluded.

The

team

collected

14

papers

that

collectively

studied

over

230,000people

for

the

effects

of

running

on

cardiovascular

disease,

cancer

and

other

causes

of

death.Most

participants(参与者)

were

from

U.S.

and

European

populations.

Pooling

the

results

from

these

14

studes

showed

that

running

led

to

lowering

the

risk

ofcancer-related

death

by

23%,

therisk

of

cardiovascular-related

death

by

30%,

and

the

risk

ofdeath

from

all

other

causes

by

27%.

Those

benefits

appeared

even

when

people

ran

relativelyslowly

and

for

under

an

hour

a

week--less

time

than

the

World

Health

Organization

recently.

There

are

some

warnings

to

the

research,

though.

Among

other

things,

possibly

thesebenefits

were

found

because

all

the14

studies

of

running

and

the

cause

of

death

only

includedhealthy

people

from

the

get-go,

the

authors

write.

Also,

only

two

of

the

papers

recorded

howpeople’s

running

habits

changed

over

the

years,

and

how

often

people

ran

was

self-reported

inotherpapers.Though

the

results

suggest

that

people

might

need

less

of

a

workout

than

the

WHOmight

suggest,

that

doesn’t

mean

it's

time

to

change

those

standards,

Pedisic

says.

There

areseveral

other

health

factors

that

need

to

be

examined

besides

the

risk

of

death,

he

says,

andpeople

need

other

ways

to

get

fit,

too.25.

What's

the

new

study

mainly

about?

A.

Running

as

slowly

as

possible

could

keep

you

healthy.

B.

Running

led

to

lower

risks

of

death

than

other

activities.

C.

Running

more

than

50

minutes

a

week

was

bad

for

health.

D.

Running

for

less

than

an

hour

a

week

could

lower

risks

of

death.

26.

It

can

be

learnt

from

the

14

studies

that__________.

A.

12

of

the

studies

self-reported

how

often

people

ran

B.

most

of

the

studies

recorded

people's

running

habits

C.

only

people

from

America

and

Europe

were

included

D.

running

lowered

the

risk

of

death

from

cancer

by

30%

27.

What

can

be

inferred

from

the

last

paragraph?

A.

People

should

run

more

than

what

the

WHO

advises.

B.

The

WHO

needs

to

change

its

standards

for

running.

C.

The

new

study

results

need

to

be

further

proved

D.

Running

is

one

of

the

best

ways

to

keep

fit.CThis

is

a

common

situation

for

beginner-level

language

learnersthey

want

to

readclassic

(经典的

)books,

but

what

their

language

skills

allow

are

usually

little

more

thanchildren's

books.

Oxford

University

Press

tried

to

solve

this

problem

back

in

1988

by

designing

a

series

ofgraded

English

reading

materials

known

as

the

Oxford

Bookworms

Library.

It

now

has

acollection

of

over

200

booksmany

of

them

simplified

versions

of

classicswhich

fall

intoseven

difficulty

levels

from"starter

level"to

level

six.

However,

there

has

always

been

a

debate

over

whether

shortened

versions

of

classicshave

less

value.

Some

worry

thatby

reading

them,students

don’t

get

to

learn

the

essenceofthe

orginal(原版的)text.

Rob

Waring,

a

Japanese

professor,

mentions

one

of

his

students,

Satoko,

as

an

examplein

his

booklet

The"Why"and"How"of

Using

Graded

Readers.

Satoko

was

a

Japanesestudent

majoring

in

English.

But

by

the

time

she

graduated,

she

had

only

managed

to

finishreading

just

one

English

book

because

it

was

far

beyond

her

language

level.

"

For

Satoko,reading

in

English

was

a

fight;

a

fight

that

she

lost,

"wrote

Waring,

who

suggested

thatreading

easy

texts

is

necessary

because

it

helps

language

learners

build

up

confidence

andfluency

in

reading.

By

reading

a

lot--rather

than

getting

stuck

in

one

book

--they

can

getused

to

kinds

of

English

expressions

and

writing

styles.

Only

by

doing

this

can

they

reachwhat

Waring

calls

the"reading-with-ideas"level

of

reading.

So

it

doesn’t

matter

if

the

books

are

original

classics

or

not--for

beginner--level

languagelearners,

the

simple

act

of

reading

is

a

form

of

learning

in

itself.

“Stories

cultures,

other

worlds,

Jennifer

Basset,

thefirst

editor

of

the

Oxford

Library,

said

in

an

interview

with

GetEnglishLessons.

28.

Why

did

Oxford

University

Press

design

the

Oxford

Bookworms

Library?

A.

To

attract

as

many

English

learners

as

possible

B.

To

allow

English

beginners

to

read

classic

books

C

To

make

classics

D.

B.

What

is

the

attitude

to

A.

Doubtful.

Unconcerned.

Choosing

to

wear

your

seat

belt

is

as

simple

as

choosingbetween

life

and

death.

Which

one

do

you

choose?

Think

about

it.

When

you

are

driving

in

a

car,

you

may

be

going

60

MPH

or

faster.

Thensomebody

ahead

of

you

or

Your

car,

which

was

going

60

MPH,

hasnow

suddenly

stopped.

Your

body,

however,

is

still

going

60

MPH.___32___

will

it

bethe

windshield(挡风玻璃)

or

your

seat

belt?

I

choose

the

seat

belt.

___33___

They

think

that

seat

belts

don’t

allow

them

much

space

to

move

freely

inthe

car.

To

them,

what's

more

uncomfortable?

Wearing

a

seat

belt

or

flying

through

a

carwindshield?

Let’s

just

take

a

closer

look

at

your

choices.

If

you

are

not

wearing

your

seat

belt,youcan

hop

around

the

car

and

slide

inand

out

of

your

seat

easily.

You

are

more

likely

to

die

orsuffer

serious

injuries.___34___Thatmeansyou

are

much

more

likely

to

walk

awayunharmed

from

a

car

accident.

Wearing

a

seat

belt

does

not

always

ensure

your

safety.

You

can

still

get

hurt

or

killedwhile

wearing

seat

belts.

___35___.You

are

much

less

likely

to

get

seriously

injured

orkilled

in

a

car

accident.

So

why

not

take

the

safer

way?

A.

What's

going

to

stop

your

body?

B.

Seat

belts

save

lives

and

that'sa

fact.

C.

Some

people

forget

to

wear

seat

belts.

D.

Some

people

think

that

seat

belts

are

uncomfortable.

E.

If

you

are

wearing

a

seat

belt,

you

have

to

stay

in

your

seat.

F.

If

you

don’t

have

a

seat

belt

on,

the

police

can

give

you

a

ticket.

G.

But

wearing

them

has

proven

to

be

safer

than

driving

without

them.第三部分语言运用(共两节,满分45分)第一节完形填空(共20小题:每小题1.5分,满分30分)阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题纸上将该项涂黑。
