insomesettingsintheUnitedStatesforwomentoshowfear,butnotanger,andformen

todisplayanger,butnotfear.Atthesametime,interpretationoffacialexpressionsacross

culturesisdifficult.InChinaandJapan,forexample,afacialexpressionthatwouldbe

recognizedaroundtheworldasconveyinghappinessmayactuallyexpressangerormask

sadness,bothofwhichareunacceptabletoshowovertly.(43).ForaWesterner

whounderstandssmilestomeanfriendlinessandhappiness,thissmilemayseemoutof

placeandevencold,underthecircumstances.Eventhoughsomefacialexpressionsmay
