improvementovertime,indicatingtheywerenotlearningthereward’slocationeffectively.

eachvisit.At250ppm,theimprovementreached38percent.Thehighestcaffeineleveldid

notproducethesamebenefit.

Theimprovementwasnotduetoincreasedspeed.Instead,caffeinatedantsfollowed

moredirectroutes,suggestingstrongerfocusandbetterspatialmemory.Theirpaceremained

unchangedacrossalldoses,buttheirpathsbecamelesswindingatthelowerandintermediate

levelsofcaffeine.

Thefindingssuggestthatcaffeinecouldplayaroleinimprovingpestcontrolstrategies

forArgentineants.Byhelpingantslearnbaitlocationsmorequicklyandbringbackmore

nestmates,caffeinecouldincreasehoweffectivelypoisonspreadsthroughacolonybeforethe

antsdetectit.However,theresearcherscautionthatmoreworkisneededbeforeapplying
