Theresultsshowedthatthetargetgroupofpupilsdrewonawidervocabulary,usedwords“classedasmore
complicatedorrarer”,andwroteatgreaterlength.Theyalso“appeartobemorecomfortablewritinginrole.While
controlpupilsimaginehowtheythemselveswouldreacttobeingshipwrecked,targetchildrenputthemselvesinthe
shoesofaliterarycharacterandexpressthecharacter’semotion”.TheTimetoActstudyalsofoundthatwhile
controlpupilsreliedon“desertedislandconventions”suchaspalmtrees,targetpupilswere“moreexpansive
