目前翻译界普遍接受的，也是作为一般翻译学习者必须努力掌握的标准，简而言之是两条：忠实（Faithfulness）和通顺（Smoothness）。

所谓“忠实”，首先指忠实于原作的内容。译者必须把原作的内容完整而准确地表达出来，不得有任何篡改、歪曲、遗漏或任意增删的现象。忠实还指保持原作的风格，即原作的民族风格、时代风格、语体风格，作者个人的语言风格，源语言文化的特殊性等，译者对原作的风格不能任意破坏和改变，不能以译者的风格代替原作的风格。所谓“通顺”，即指译文语言必须通顺易懂，符合规范。译文必须是明白晓畅的现代语言，没有逐词死译、硬译的现象，没有语言晦涩难懂的现象，没有文理不通、结构混乱、逻辑不清的现象。2.对译者的要求翻译是一门综合性学科，它集语言学、文学、心理学、信息论等于一身，涉及政治、经济、文化、科技等诸多领域，因此，翻译人员不仅要具备多方面的知识、技能、修养等条件，而且要经过必要的学习和训练，掌握翻译的科学和艺术，这样才能成为合格的翻译工作者。具体说来，翻译人员需要具备以下几个方面的条件和水平：1）扎实的语言基本功。译者应具有较强的驾驭译出语和译入语的能力，能正确理解原文，熟练运用本族语。Thislargebodyofmenhadmetonthepreviousnight,despitetheelementswhichwereopposedtothem,aheavyrainfallingthewholeofthenightanddrenchingthemtotheskin.(R.

demand,advancereform,boosttechnologicalinnovationanddefuserisks.在回答有关如何实现增长目标的问题时，李强总理表示，政府要打好几套政策组合拳，包括扩大需求、推进改革、促进技术创新和防范化解风险的组合拳。introduce...policycombinations在这里翻译成“打好……组合拳”，而不是平淡的“引入组合政策”或者“引入政策组合”，使译文更加生动。4）具有高度的责任感。翻译工作者应当有高度的政治责任感，即必须善于应用正确的立场、观点和方法来分析研究所译的内容，以对译文的准确性做出正确的判断；翻译者还应具备高度的职业责任感，即必须意识到自己肩负的使命，树立兢兢业业、认真负责的态度。3.翻译的过程翻译过程主要包括理解、表达和校核这三个方面。1）理解只有在正确理解原文的基础上，才能正确地表达译文。理解是翻译成功与否的先决条件和重要步骤。2）表达表达是理解后能否保证译文成功的又一关键步骤，是理解的深化和体现。在这一过程中，译者要注意恰到好处地再现原文的思想内容和语体色彩，使译文既忠实于原作又符合译入语的语法和表达习惯。要做到这一点，译者就必须在选词用字、组词成句、组句成篇上下功夫，在翻译技巧的运用上下功夫。在汉英翻译的过程中，最需要注意的一点是必须避免机械的死译和望文生义的乱译。例如：
