2、have their own personalities. mrs. bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters. mr. bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, mr. darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior. even the five daughters in bennet family are very different. jane is simple,

3、 innocent and never speaks evil of others. elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion. mary likes reading classic books. (actually she is a pedant.) kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, lydia. lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man,

4、 and is somehow a little profligate. when i read the book, i can always find the same personalities in the society now. that is why i think this book is indeed the representative of the society in britain in the 18th century.the family of gentleman in the countryside is jane austen’s favourite

5、 topic. but this little topic can reflect big problems. it concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in britain in her century. you can find these from the very beginning of this book.the first sentence in this book is impressive. it reads: it is a truth well known to all the world

6、that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must be in need of a wife;. the undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but possession.people always think that austen was an expert at telling love stories. in fact, the marriage in her book is not th

7、e result of love, but the result of economic needs. after reading this book, i know the truth is that a poor woman must be in need of a husband, a wealthy man.i couldn’t forget how eager mrs. bennet wants to marry off her daughters. if you want to know why she is so crazy about these things, i

8、 must mention the situation in britain at that time. only the eldest son had the privilege of inheriting his father’s possessions. younger sons and daughters who are used to luxurious lives have no choice but marry a man or woman in possession of a large fortune to continue their comfortable l

9、ives. thus, we can see that getting married is a way to become wealthier, particularly for women without many possessions. jane austen told us that money and possession determined everything, including marriage and love in her century.in pride and prejudice;, the sister of mr. bingley strongly oppos

10、ed his plan of marrying jane because the bennets don’t have many possessions and their social positions are much lower than them. from this, we can see there are a lot of obstacles for a not very rich woman to marry a wealthy husband. the society, the relatives would not allow them to get marr

11、ied.in modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreased rapidly, the concept of money determines everything; is still rooted in some people’s mind. a lot of parents try hard to interfere their children’s marriages. education background, possessions, jobs remains th

12、e main reason that may influence one’s marriage. marry for money is still a big problem in our society. we can’t help thinking: can money determine everything?austen left this problem for us to think. the genius of jane austen lies in this perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects

13、 big problems. although austen was only 21 when she wrote pride and prejudice;, her sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively. the plots in her works are always very natural. the development of the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics.

It was not until 1850, when WUTHERING HEIGHTS received a second printing with an introduction by Emily s sister Charlotte, that it attract

16、ed a wide readership. And from that point the reputation of the book has never looked back. Today it is widely recognized as one of the GREat novels of English literature.Even so, WUtheRING HEIGHTS continues to divide readers. It is not a pretty love story; rather, it is swirling tale of largely unl

17、ikeable people caught up in obsessive love that turns to dark madness. It is cruel, violent, dark and brooding, and many people find it extremely unpleasant. And yet-it possesses a grandeur of language and design, a sense of tremendous pity and GREat loss that sets it apart from virtually every othe

18、r novel written.the novel is told in the form of an extended FLASHback. After a visit to his strange landlord, a newcomer to the area desires to know the history of the family-which he receives from Nelly Deans, a servant who introduces us to the Earnshaw family who once resided in the house known a

19、s Wuthering Heights. It was once a cheerful place, but Old Earnshaw adopted a Gipsy child who he named Heathcliff. And Catherine, daughter of the house, found in him the perfect companion: wild, rude, and as proud and cruel as she. But although Catherine loves him, even recognizes him as her soulmat

20、e, she cannot lower herself to marry so far below her social station. She instead marries another, and in so doing sets in motion an obsession that will destroy them all.WUtheRING HEIGHTS is a bit difficult to get into; the opening chapters are so dark in their portrait of the end result of this obs

21、essive love that they are somewhat off-putting. But they feed into the flow of the work in a remarkable way, setting the stage for one of the most remarkable structures in all of literature, a story that circles upon itself in a series of repetitions as it plays out across two generations. Catherine

22、 and Heathcliff are equally remarkable, both vicious and cruel, and yet never able to shed their impossible love no matter how brutally one may wound the other.As the novel coils further into alcoholism, seduction, and one of the most elaborately imagined plans of revenge it gathers into a ghostly t

23、one: Heathcliff, driven to madness by a woman who is not there but who seems reflected in every part of his world-dragging her corpse from the grave, hearing her calling to him from the moors, escalating his brutality not for the sake of brutality but so that her memory will never fade, so that she

Yes, this is madness, insanity, and there is no peace this side of the grave or even beyond.It is a stunning novel, frightening, inexorable, unsettling, filled with unbridled passion that makes one cringe.
